I have a few observations, and forgive me if they display my lack of familiarity with the archons' stats in AD&D.
The tome and throne archons, according to their descriptions, are wearing armors -- detailed descriptions in some cases -- but their AC features natural armor.
Already, I can excuse it myself by saying that the armor is a physical/visual manifestation of an archon's nature, and can't actually be removed , but I wanted to point it out in case it was an actual lapse. I believe, howeve, that in the AD&D Encyclopedia Magica, several varieties of celestial weaponry and armors were detailed as objects, independent of the celestials wearing them. Doesn't make it right for 3e, of course, but it's the heritage I'mlooking at.
Also, I'll have to go back to my old materials and examine the sword archon: 4 bite attacks? I know it has no arms with which to attack, but that's pretty intense for something which ostensibly has a human head. Wow. I wonder if they can get "dentures of fiend slaying" or "keen teeth."
Maybe on Halloween a sword archon could paint its body night black, attach a bunch of vines to its chin, and call itself a vargoille (or a penangelan).
