"Certed" Campaign Items

Sam

First Post
In past threads we've talked about using index cards for spell & monsters. People have mentioned using Avery business cards that you run through your printer for campaign items as handouts for the players. Well, I've just got back from a Staples run (funny how you always wind up spending so much more than you intended when you walk in there [at least I do]):D . I'm about to make up some "Certed" (ala Living Campaigns) items for my two home Campaigns (a Greyhawk campaign run for my group, and a "family" campaign I run for the kids).
I plan on making cards for potions, scrolls, and other consumable magic items. It will stop the confusion that happens in my Greyhawk campaign where nobody remembers to cross of used potions, scrolls, wand charges, etc. And I think the kids will really like getting the cards in my family campaign. It'll make it a bit more tangible for them.

So, I turn to my intrepid friends in the ENWorld community to ask if anyone has done something like this already. If so, do you have templates saved? Does anyone have any appropriate clip art to use?

Thanks,
--Sam

I've recently been put in a position to take a lot more stuff to my games, so this is slowly starting to happen. Where possible, I write the interesting items up to hand to the player. The first of them went out in games today, but more will come.

Eventually, I plan on keeping a file prepared in advance :)

I know exactly what you're looking for...

It's Arcane Creations Volume I by Heathen Oracle. 17 pages of magic items drawn up beautifully, and sold as a $5 pdf for your printing pleasure. After you get it, email V Shane for the extra page of potions he did for me.

A marvelous product and quite a nice guy.

PS

Yah I did this for my group. Not only does it work, its dang near indespensible to me. It really helps anyone who does not have a firm grasp on the rules and is really useful for anyone who just doesnt like to have to look up the descriptions of their spells when they need to check the range or something.

In fact, I started out just doing spells and my players did up their own magic items and even just mundane equipment this way. I keep little rubberbanded stacks of index cards with the character sheets.

In my campaign, the pcs have all their equipment on 3by5 cards. It comes in handy for me. For instance I will ask for their stack of possesions when they cast a detect spell. Once I pickpocketed a character, and he was unable to figure out what was taken. Once I added an item, and waited untill the PC discovered it. I also use it to determine what the PC's have on them, and what is being carried by Bill the Mule(Fear Bill, in the early days he killed more goblins than the paladin!). It also keeps very clear which PC is actually holding which item.
I don't have clip art, but that sounds like a neat idea.

They look interesting, thanks for the post.

I've already bought the business cardstock, and kind of like the dimensions of these. I've got these grandiose visions of my players having one or two sheets of business card holders in their binders holding all of their "certed" magic items. The cards in the product you mentioned would have to be hand cut, and are 1/4 page each.

I did some searching for potion images on google today and came up with a few that worked, though I'd like to get a better set & selection.

Hit rescale on your printer?

Not following you. If they are 8 1/2" x 11" pages that hold four pictures on them, how is rescaling going to fit them into 2" x 3 1/2" business card forms?

Seems like with a little work you could get the template to print at 1/4 scale on business card forms.

My best guess would be to hit print screen and place the card forms in paint, then fiddle around with them there.

They seem like nice pictures, after all.
