How do people feel about 'The next/new Edition' not just the Hypothetical 4th edition, drawingon the 2nd and 3rd edition divide and the others.

I'm of the view 'If I like it I'll try it'.

If I like it I will use it

Every edition has been an improvement - some greater than others.
The level of improvement from Basic (and the other boxed sets) might be equal to the jump from 2nd to 3.5 edition. There was such an increase in game mechanics (and complexity) but also an increase in options and thoroughness.

It will be a long time before we will be ready for a new edition. I am still hit by the wow factor of 3.5 and it has been out for 5 years. It is soo much cleaner, streamlined, and extensible....

Or I am an edition wh@re... whatever...

I've always looked at new editions with a cirtain amount of optimism. No matter how great a game is there is always room for improvement. 3.X for example can lend itself to some rediculously complex high level feat/ability combinations that are a truely heroic undertaking to understand nevermind run well as a DM. Shadowrun 3rd ed is still stuck in a 1989 mentality that needs to be adressed and a complete reworking of the matrix is definatly nessesity (both of which seem to be priorities for the dev team yay!).

There are a few instances where I havn't liked edition changes but they tend not to bother me that much. I still play an occaional game of Warhammer 40K Second ed. and my Paranoia second ed still sees moderate use.

What FreeXenon said. Someday, there will be a new edition (I know that), but I just want to squeeze all the juice out of 3.5 first and that will take a while. My hat goes off the creative minds that brought us 3.0, then 3.5; I'm still wowing over it too.

If I like it, I'll try it. I'm not going to dismiss a game just because of where it comes from or any outside factors. At least, I'll try not to.

I am by no means looking forward to a new edition, I am quite happy with 3.5 and plan to keep playing it for quite some time.... But with that said, I also don't like to get left too far behind so after a new edition has been out for awhile and I've picked up on what people are saying (or have said) about it I am likely to eventually move to it.

I'm quite happy with 3.5 and have more than enough material to run games for the next ten years (i.e. the core books, the ECS and the Sharn book), so I doubt I'd switch to a new edition if it came along any time soon.

I like 3.5 and hope that fourth edition wont come for at least another six to eight years. However, I've noticed that new editions tend to be ten years apart. So that would mena that fourth edition may very well come out in 2009. Whatever, though. If I like it I'll support it. If not, I'll stick with 3.5.
