Changing the Pokemount for Dwarves

First Post
I'm going to start playing a Dwarf Paladin in an upcoming campaign. By the way, he's aiming for the Hammer of moradin PrC. My DM likes his Dwarves as infantry, not cavalry, so he asked me to ask you (what a mouthful) for possible replacements for the Paladin Pokemount (i.e other powers, etc.). Hre's wary of my poergaming tendencies, so he hasn't accepted my ideas. So please, come up with possibel replacement ideas.

By the way, I had no problem with going Warcraft and riding a Griphon, coupled with the Warhammer throwing, but he wouldn't go for it :D

Something simple would be in order...

Fighter Bonus feat: A little powergamey, but simple and versitile
Smite Chaos 1/day: Goes with the Smite Evil progression
Add 1 to the spells per day to the Paladin's spell progression: IIRC the Palidin Spell list is crap anyways

Wait for Complete Divine to come out if you can; maybe you can cannibalize some ideas off of that. I think there's some stuff in UA also, though I don't own that book.

The paladin spell list isn't so bad (they do get divine favor, for instance), but if you're just concerned about your player's level of power with respect to the rest of the party -- if you're actually going to let him take the hammer of moradin prestige class, he'll be just fine as far as power goes.

Otherwise, though, maybe just give him an extra use of smite evil?

(Ack -- I thought that you were the DM. But the point stays: the hammer of moradin is so powerful that nobody should worry about compensating for the lack of the mount.)

Divine Favor is +1 luck per three caster levels, minimum 1. I'd rather pick up some PrCs if I have to wait till level 12 to get +2 luck as a standard action for 10 rounds. Remember... Paladin is 1/2 Caster Level.

So your DM likes his Paladins Slow:)

But seriously how about a companion either a animal ala ranger/druids or a follower Page type.

Or allow some divine summoning of something celestial but not mount like maybe starting with a lantern archon and going up as you level.

Why not get some personal magic item that increases in power as you do? Something like the weapons out of Spells and Spellcraft would be nice, as long as your DM had a pre-arranged list of powers. I could see myself giving that to my own munchkin player...

Personally, I have no problem with a regular mount. The thing is, my DM doesn't like the flavor of the pokemount for Dwarves.

Prothall, This could really get out of hand when put together with The hammer of moradin plethora of bane abilities.

So your DM likes his Paladins Slow

Macmathan, I'll ask him about it :D

Yeah, I can see were you're going with this. And in this case it's probably true. But I'm not sure that just eliminating it is the answer. Not every dwarf paladin is going to take the Hammer of moradin PrC, so an option should exist if the DM wants it.

A bonus fighter feat seems too much of a copout.
An extra smite could do be an answer. But I'm not sure.
An extra spell seems slightyly too good. Maybe just add some spells to the Paladin list (i.e the dwarf domain from the FRCS?)

Also, replacing the pokermount with a feat (any feat) seems unfair, in the sense that the mount scales with levels. By the way I've never played a a paladin in 3E or 3.5E, and I have no idea just how signifivcant the mount can be, so correct me if you think the previous statement isn't true. FOr my character concept I don't really see the mount as very significant, but remember that it isn't me looking for the change, it's my DM. Any change in this case will probably favor me, so you'll hear no complaints from this quarter :D
