character concept, what do you think

I'll look into somatic spells. As for dropping barbarian, I plan to go barbarian/sorc untill I prestigue, if the DM allows. I am thinking either rage mage, or spellsword.

About the level balance between barbarian and sorcerer:

That's mainly a mechanical issue, but a quite important one.

If you want your spells to be at least somewhat effective, you cannot lose too many spellcaster levels.

If you lack behind in spellcasting power (compared to a pure spellcaster) by 2-4 levels, you will still do fairly good (with Practiced Spellcaster you can even keep up in the offense somewhat). If you lose more spellcaster levels than that, your spells really lose too much effectiveness to have a significant effect, even the utility spells. In other words, you will then have to take special care to pick up spells, which are not overly dependant on caster level, which drastically limits spell selection.

Agreed. That's why Eldritch Knight is so useful, whereas Rage Mage and Spellsword give prohibitively few caster levels.

Yep, and Rage Mage furthermore only has 3/4 BAB, so it lacks behind in both areas.

Very true. The only redeeming quality is that it does help to work around that whole "Can't cast in Rage" setback of the Barbarian/Caster :\

I ran a campaign in which one of the characters was a Barbarian/Sorceror. I don't have any recommendations in terms of mechanics but one thing we did for feel was keep his illiteracy and, when he wanted to use a scroll, he would begin foaming at the mouth and then eat it.
