Character Concepts

For a play by email thing, I have a character that's half orc/half elf. He's a friendly bard who offers hugs to strangers. I haven't used him in any tabletop game. I'm not sure how to adjust the stats. Generally orcs and elves can't breed but I heard that it's usually because a female elf cannot survive giving birth to a half orc. With my character, the mother is the orc.

Old Character: A half-elf druid. Has a budhist philosophy of enlightenment through seeking to transcend identity and become one with earth. Did a lot of fantasy weed smoking. He refused to have a name. I've actually just translated him over from 2E to 3.5E. At only 6th level, he's got plenty of unlimited potential.

Old Character: A dwarf fighter with a Cha of 4. Played him up as horribly scarred with one eye. He always wore a helm, except for interrogations. I think he made it to 3rd level in 2E, but I can only find my sketches of him.

Old Character: Half-orc necromancer. He's currently retired, living in his stronghold with his orc wife and numerous orc children, surrounded by his army of undead servants.

New Character: Tiefling assassin/duelist/rogue. A highwayman who is secretly the member of an assassin's guild. He was begun at epic levels, so he might not get a lot of replay.

I really wanted the major villain of my last campaign to come back as a vampire after the PCs killed him. Vampires are always sexy-cool, but it seemed weirdly appropriate because there'd been a lot of people grabbing at immortality, and the villain's daughter was a PC love interest, so it would've been interesting to have her revive him and cause all sorts of complications.

But we decided it'd just be best for him to stay dead and end the campaign with that final hurrah.

Ooh, and how about this character. A camel riding bard who recites passages from the Qu'ran.

Here's a couple I've been toying with playing.

Saw the barbarian != savage idea on the boards and really liked it:

So, using barbarian class: a Cultured, urbane warrior. Formerly an officer in some sort of military organisation. Possibly a noble. Drummed out of the forces, probably after a messy court martial... The 'barbarian' abilities represent the demon that is posessing them. It whispers warnings (uncanny dodge, trap sense). Sometimes it even takes over (rage!). Figured it could be fun!

A partial concept:

A non human tribal type. Part/All ranger probably works best. This person was bought up and trained to hunt and kill the humans who trespassed on their tribes lands. For some reason the character had to leave their tribe. They're now nomadic and lonely, seeking acceptance within a mostly human society.

I think they could fit nicely into a group of PCs and would make for an interesting culture clash. They want to be accepted but find it really hard not to think of humans in terms of 'weak points', 'blind spots' and so on... Probably spent a good deal of time watching them with a 'predators eye'.

My take was the character would be kind of 'Klingon like' - honour bound and militant (probably Lawful Neutral...). I would make them an excellent cook - with a little recipie book full of delicious ways to cook human. :)

Some of the races that I'd consider:
A half orc - raised by orcs. Very confused!

An elf/half elf. From an extremely xenophobic and haughty elven settlement/nation.

A hobgoblin - just cos I have a strange hankering to play a hobgoblin archer. Source unknown...

Possible reasons for leaving:
Showing mercy to a human?
New, racist leader exiles them for being human (for the half orc/elf).

Edit:

I'm going to combine it with this! It's a great idea. :D

--Lishnak the Green. Lishnak was in love with a nice young man of her tribe, and he with her. Until he met Urga, that is. Now he loves Urga, not Lishnak. Well, loved; Lishnak, in a fit of rage, slew her beloved and his new paramour. Then she ran away. If she ever returns to her tribe, she'll have a heavy justice to face....

Lishnak the Hobgoblin 'Human Hunter' Archer. Yay!

Glad you liked Lishnak, Inconsequenti-Al. I thought she was kind of amusing.

I've got a couple more, dredged up from the recesses of my brain. These are all actual characters that saw gameplay at one point or another.

--Silver Lyrajja. A charming, pretty thief who used her "assets" to steal from men. She was a statuesque lass with silver hair. She had a horse named Cherry. She'd flirt with just about anything in sight, provided it had something she wanted.

--"Conan the LIbrarian". I don't remember the characters actual name, but the concept was that he was an elderly librarian with a magical tome that could become any mundane tome the librarian knew of. He searched for books to rescue from damp, dark, moldy dungeons.

--Thoth the Druid. Thoth always spoke in the third person, never referring to himself as "I". If you looking for an irritating speech pattern that doesn't rely on accents, here ya go. I don't recall what his motivation was, only that having a player talk that way in the game is annoying.
