What programs are good to use for the creation and layout of a paper character sheet?

For my characters, I tend to make them by hand in Word- using tables and such.

Excel might be another good choice- if you want it to autocalculate figures for you.

Adobe's InDesign and various print-design tools are best if you're just building a character sheet to print.

Edit: Whoops - you mean to create blank character sheets? PCGen is designed to create characters and print them out any way you want, with a number of pre-defined sheets ready for your use.

Monet, I'd go with Excel - it's very easy to work with!

I think part of the reason you don't see everyone creating their own sheets is because there is no easy program/language that makes sheet design anything less than a laborious chore.

I have to agree with a previous poster and say that Adobe's Indesign is great for making character sheets. I've used Pagemaker in the past but InDesign adds some of Photoshop's functionality to make a much better product.

Of course, the program is not cheap and if you are brand new to Adobe products could take a while for you to get comfy with.
