I have a question about charging. In the SRD it says that charging does not provoke an AoO. Does this mean that, if you charge someone with a 10' reach weapon, you would not provoke an AoO from him when you moved from a square 10' away from him to a square 5' away from him?

I tend to think not, since that would make reach weapons rather pointless, but is there an official clarification on this?

charging in and of itself does not provoke an opportunity, though charging someone with a reach weapon generally involves moving through his threatened area which provokes an attack of opportunity in and of itself.

What it means is that the act of charging does not in itself provoke an AoO. If in the process of charging, you leave a threatened space, you incur an AoO for that (not for the fact that you're charging).
