howabout helping Origins out, instead?
Cost.

My cost of trip for a Chicago Gameday: $20 in gas and $5 in tolls. OK, so I should buy a more energy efficient car.

Cost of trip to Origins: $75 in gas, + hotel, + entry fees + food.

Difference: More money to spend in Chicago than Columbus.

I'm sure Origins is great, but a lot of people don't go to the all the big cons (or even any of them).

Now, if we go against Origins, those of us left behind can pimp your products at the Gameday--everybody wins!

Last June, Expeditious Retreat Press showed up with a box of product and no distribution deal. I think it was at the gameday that they hooked up with someone who ended up distributing their product...which went on to win three "ENnies" at GenCon last year.

Getting back on topic, I think that recruiting DMs prior to sign-up is a good idea. You may still get straggler DMs, but you will start with a fuller plate and that will help.

I think this a great idea for several reasons.

First, it decreases the probably of players ditching one game, after they've signed up for it, in favor for another, since all the games would be available from the begiining of player sign up.

Second, it'll give the GMs a chance to shuffle their games into slots such that the GMs get a chance (and first pick!) as to what games they want to play when they aren't GMing.

The problem isn't so much getting the time off, but sucking up 14 hours of over time for working the weekend. That'll buy an awful lot of game goodies.

We'll see what happens, looks like I might get to make it this summer...

Hrm...

Should I run a Pirate (Skull & Bones) game?
Or an Interplanetary Spy (Spycraft in space) game?

I suppose the question should be can you afford to miss that amount overtime pay and still make payments on bills and feed you and/or your family. If you have enough to cover the basics, perhaps you should think of how much fun the gameday is in relation to the extra cash you're getting for work...we're much better than money after all! :D

What he said! This is an excellent idea indeed.

Great comments, everybody. I'm going to start emailing past attendes tonight so that we can a bit more input on dates, and then we'll move on to a GM sign-up thread. I'm thinking the 26th will probably be the date.

So far, Bad Axe has promised some prizes. Woo!

:Checks cost of banner ads on ENWorld:

Hmm... this is totally do-able for me. Any suggestions for catchy marketing copy? Suggestions for other places to do advertising? Suggestions that this might be a bad idea?

I don't think the banner adds on ENWorld will really be beneficial. We (the posters) do a pretty good job of bumping the threads to the first page. IMO a banner add on another game site would be more beneficial.

A static web page describing the event and the scedule may also be beneficial.
