Hmm.. voted none, mostly becaue I voted before reading the first post. If anything, I'd say there should be fewer core races (either gnomes or halflings, half-elves, and half-orcs could all easily go away), and more setting-specific races (Kalashtar are cool, but very much an Eberron thing).

If I were going to severely restrict racial choices, I'd be inclined to use six new races (warforged, small, medium and large 'generic anthro animals' customizable with racial traits, AE/AU giants and a tank race as a brutish, degenerate form of the giants), drop gnomes, half-orcs and half-elves and make elves non-core semi-sinister fey with a level adjustment. I might swap halflings for kender or faen (and make them half-fey), too.

But if I had to pick one new race and keep the existing set, I'd probably pick warforged, because you could come closer to the others with core races.

Thinking about he options, I realized I'd prefer something like the Kalashtar. Something that seems mostly human, but with an otherworldlyness about them that makes them definitely different. There are a few races around that fit that paradigm.

Tough decision. I voted for the animal race, but I really could have gone the rout of brutish humanoid (since the two are often interchangeable) or a race of humanoids that are not animal-like, but not human (xeph, githyanki, githzerai, etc..).

Other: Fey race or Construct race.

So you are a player in a new homebrew campaign, or you are a DM creating his own homebrew (fantasy). The idea is that the core races would be featured, but one aditional race (or maybe two or three - no more) will be added. So, which one race would you like the most to see added to elves, dwarves, gnomes, etc.?

Also tell if you usually prefer to play core races, or new exotic ones.

[minirant]Whats with these extremely limited Polls?! As a DM of a Homebrew campaign, I use the races I want to use. None of this PHB + one other BS. Oi![/minirant]

As a player, I guess I would choose Faen from Monte Cook's AU/E books or Eberron's Warforged
