I voted for constructs because I really miss this option. There are several archetypes you can explore with a half-built (or entirely built) character and the main races just can't fit in those shoes.

That said, I also love the idea of another brutish race such as orcs or lizardfolk (without LA). Even thought you may explore this archetype with half-orcs.

And finally, I miss a Large core race. I know it would be tought to design one without LA, but we already have small races. Why discriminate this particular kind of vertically challenged?

Another vote for Lizardmen. So, furries (sort of) i guess.

Also, elves should be *mysterious* and dangerous, at least in the eyes of the common folk. Give 'em some nice magick-based racials, and slap on a bit of LA. Even if it's just free non-damaging cantrips, or something.

'I hear they can turn food to ash in your mouth! They must have amazing magical powers!' *cough* prestidigitation *cough*. A bit of a rubbish example, but I'm writing on the fly.

But yeah. Lizardmen for the win!

I voted Brutish because in my own homebrew, it would be Hobgoblins which still control some lands and a country or two due to the humanoid invasions from two centuries ago.

I voted "Other" because my choice was all of the above.
I use just about any race that can be used as a race.

I want my D&D taverns to feel like the cantina from Star Wars. :)

My campaign features Humans, Brutes (Orc-like humans), Half-fey, Half-giants, Gnomes and Goblins.

Brutes are more or less Half-orcs but IMC orcs don't exist and Brutes are considered to be human throwbacks (or to be tainted by the god of 'ugly creatures' (ie abberations, sharks and reptiles))
I suppose Half-giants are 'Tanks'
and note that you don't have a fey option (NB Gnomes are fey IMC)
I do not consider goblins to be brutish (they are more conniving and sneaky) so didn't vote that

I have neither orcs nor elfs IMC having replaced Elfs with Sidhe a NPC race with magic powers. Dwarfs are okay but didn't fit my theme (although they may reappear somewhere). Halflings? - what's a halfling?

I would also allow Gnolls, Lizardfolk, an aquatic race (maybe even Sahuagin) and a tiny winged race, provided they weren't too weird or overpowered

I, for my homebrew, think that there are way too many humanoid races. I only use humans, elves, and dwarves in my home setting. Well, and elans (love elans), but theyre transfigured humans.

Aasimar and teiflings could fit as well.

But the proliferation of humanoids makes me wince. It just gives me the star trek "humans with funny foreheads" willies. I dont like the idea of creating a race to fill a niche or adventuring role. Thats what classes and/or actual character personality is for.

I especilly dont like dogmen, catmen, ratmen, cowmen, whatever anthropoid animals you can think of. I know the idea has been around since ancient times, its just a personal preference. Heck, I dont even like some things as classic as centaurs for my world.

Thats just for my homebrew, mind, since that was the question (right?) Standard D&D, whatever floats yer boat is fine, but the weirder the critter, the farther fetched the excuse for grouping together to go adventuring, and the less I am probably going to enjoy the game.

My choice would be Kalashtar from Eberron. The dual spiritually can really open up a campaign to outsider invervention. This will, however, only work in a game with psionics.

I voted "Other". I'd like to see the half-giants from Dark Sun. I like the idea of a race that is bigger, to offset all the small races (I know dwarves are technically medium in the size categories, but they're still short). But the half-giants aren't so big as to be unwieldly. The goliaths from Races of Stone would work, too, with some alterations to remove the level adjustment.

This is the reasoning I voted Tanks. I would also like to see a core race which is larger.

I chose "Other" because there was no planar option. Give me Neraphim, Chaonds, Mechanatrices, and Bladelings over another elf any day.
