Sounds more like a technicality of them including older stuff, rather than a grand sweeping revision for new things.

I suspect it indicates something with both of them mentioning it. Not necessarily a full blown setting. But who knows.

I think the catch is they have 4 people working on the books, and all hands were busy on the rules in 2014. So they're spending some extra time really looking at the Realms and brainstorming while slowing updating the setting.
But, taking some fan feedback would be cool...

Did they ever "announce" that they weren't planning on doing a Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting?

The whole reason I aksed was because alot of the vague and cryptic comments coming from WOTc raised doubts in my mind.
