In our campaign there currently is a devout Tyr believer (paladin),<snip>

Um, Thanee, Tyr HAS a real world following, albeit a small one - He is a real Norse god. :)

I'll leave the question about whether he is real or not to someone else, but that's surely another Tyr, than the one I was talking about. ;)

Bye

With how often these Jack Chick links get post here, just make them a sticky. They are always good for a laugh.

I am fairly devout. But moderate.
Here is my observation:

The percentage of complete idiots who are not religious is equal to the percentage of complete idiots who are.

I do find however, that the tolerance and understanding for RPGs generally speaking is drastically better than it was in say the late 70s and early 80s. Back in the good old days everbody thought i was a devil worshipper, from religous zealots to the hedonistic pagans.

Strikes me that had this guy can't be satisfied. To read his comments strictly, you'd think that any action not consciously attributed to God is the work of Satan and corruption. Should one milk a cow or wipe after relieving themself without contemplating how these actions exalt the almighty, then he/she is a practicioner of magic and thus condemned to the pit. I'm not a Christian and don't subscribe to even his most basic assumptions but I'm having trouble understanding how anyone meets his criteria for being a good Christian.

If the prerequisites for magic are so simple and all encompassing as he prescribes, then just about everything is sorcery. How is this tenable?

Hopefully we don't need to remind folks about discussion of religious merits, et. al. But they always seem to get dragged into the thread eventually. So I'll go ahead and warn off the Devil's Advocates ahead of time. ;)

It's not that any given religion is "bad". It's extremism that is bad. It doesn't really matter what one is an extremist of.
