First Post
Last time, on City Survivor:

Glantri City and Barovia were running neck and neck for a while there (ba dum bum! I'll be here all week, folks!), but in the end, Barovia was finally disqualified from City Survivor due to being, well, not a city.

All that, and the number of voters dropped nearly in half, perhaps demonstrating that all the interest in these poll threads is growing thin.

Nonetheless, we proceed one more into City Survivor- which city will emerge as the ultimate Survivor?

The contenders:

City of Brass: The fabled extraplanar home of the evil efreeti.
Freeport: Avast ye! This be the main port o' call for Green Ronin's d20 materials!
Glantri City: This city is home of Mystara's Great School of Magic, and the centerpiece in all the political machinations of the magocracy.
Greyhawk City: The Free City of Gygaxian origination.
Lankhmar: Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser (and not those two similar guys from Greyhawk novels) call this place home.
Ptolus: The City by the Spire, this city boasts the largest visitor's guide known to man!
Sharn: Chief city of the world of Eberron, they've managed to solve overpopulation problems by building straight up!
Sigil: Another city by a spire, though this one's a little more remote. The planar hub of the multiverse.

Glantri City is AWESOME! Stop voting for it! Canal city! Magocracy! Horrible things lurking in the muck of the canals! Mysterious cabals murdering one another with knives and sorcery! An oligarchy of powerful wizards who hate one another, but hate the non-wizarding world even more! Clerics outlawed! Dwarves discriminated against! Oh, and the slow-motion death of magic underway beneath their feet ...

Glantri. Bad name. No current references. No current production support. No living world.
Then comes Lankhmar. Great for the books. Poor for the game.

Unfortunately, it is poorly known. It is, by far, the best wizard oriented city ever published for D&D. Much more original and better written than most of its more famous competitors.

Have you actually read the Ptolus book? I agree it is pricey, but well worth it. You get just enough detail to be able to mold a location into what you need and create whole adventures and campaigns from one book. No need to purchase a multitude of setting related products. I have a plethora of books and find myself regularly pulling out Ptolus to find a general idea and then tweak the crap out of it to fit my game.

I wish Glantri was still supported.
