I replaced wizard and sorcerer with psion. Now, if the next edition's magic system more closely resembles the current psionics system rather than the dreaded Vancian magic, I'd go with wizard instead.

The base classes in the PHB are already pretty well-suited (all the oriental, psionic, and variation classes (Sorcerer being the sole exception here, since the Sorcerer is also good for new players who want to try a spellcasting class) should be in extra books). I would only remove the Monk and add something else instead (voted Warlock, but actually I don't think the Warlock would make a good core class choice, some kind of Noble class would be good :)).

Heh. Well, this magic system is one of the core foundations of the D&D system and surely won't go away. It's cool to offer alternative versions (i.e. a version working like psionics do, which is actually worked out well enough to be a full replacement), but the core magic system should be the traditional one IMHO.

I dropped the "special fighters" (Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger) because if you make their "class features" into feats, then you could recreate them with fighter and/or multiclassing.

I dropped the Monk in favor of Psi Warrior.

I included artificer, scout, and psion. I felt they added somthing not covered by the other classes.

I notice so far that Monk & Psion are tied for 11th place. The other "origional 11" all make the cut.

Scout & Warlock are the only "new classes" over 100 votes.

Psi Warrior, Swashbuckler, & Artificer are over 50 votes.

Fighter, Marshal, Barbarian, Wizard, Cleric, Warlock, Rogue, Scout, Bard, and Spirit Shaman.

Honestly, the Bard and Barbarian are only there because I wanted to fill things out to 11. I droped Rangers because nobody is happy with them and the scout is a great replacement. Druids have mutated too much from their roots in 3.5 so I've replaced them with the spirit shaman. Paladins have been dropped to become a prestige class or set of prestige classes. Marshall makes a good replacement and reinforces team tactics. Warlock replaces sorcerers as the latter are a muddled mess of blandness.

Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, and Wizard from existing core. And the bard only squeaks by by the assumption that it is massively re-engineered and because I didn't want enough of the other classes to come to 11. You lucky bastage.

I pulled in favored soul. Everyone and their dog seems to want cleric to spontaneous cast, but nobody does it right. The favored soul works well enough.

Psion and psychic warrior. The psion is what the sorcerer should be, so why keep the sorcerer when you can have a class with more distinct flavor from the wizard. More about the psychic warrior in a moment.

I was unsure about monk. I like martial arts and find you folks who only want European flavor to be incredibly limited of vision. But it definitely needs to be broader. But how?

Well, I figure if you refine the psychic warrior enough, it can fill the shoes of a monk, and be broader.

Ranger I'll keep, on the presumption you re-engineer it in the vein of Wildscape or Mercenaries.

I kept the four basic classes -
Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, Wizard

Added Scout - it seems a better fit; the current ranger should be implemented as a Scout/[Divine] multi-class/PrC.

Added classes to reflect the "magic class" variant archetypes:
Spirit Shaman (with Druid as a PrC)
Bard (magic as music, probably using Monte's variant)
Artificer

The "Mind Magic" variant is actually common enough in fantasy literature (Dernyi, Sare, Valdemar, more) and is a much better (IMO) spontaneous caster rule set that I included most the the XPH:
Psion (the learned/controlled mind mage; I'd get rid of the specialties and include more of the telepath/sense powers)
Psychic Warrior
Wilder (the uncontrolled spontaneous caster, though Warlock would work as well)

Of the others:
Barbarian - feats and/or a PrC added to scout or fighter
Druid - PrC for either Shaman or Cleric
Monk - PrC for Fighter or Psychic Warrior
Paladin - PrC for Fighter/Cleric
Ranger - PrC for Scout/Cleric
Sorceror - dropped
Soulknife - PrC for Psychic Warrior

all the rest dropped, or as PrCs.

I chose very unorthodozical approach:
Fighter (basic model for combat oriented class)
Rogue (current reincarnation is working, has clear role)
Scout (the hunter/nature type)
Psion (would be my choice for magic)
PsyWarrior (best combination of combat skill and magic, at least if bumped to full BAB)
Warloc (really like to true unique idea)
Marshal (actually some kind of combination of Marshal and Bard for supportive role)

That would actually be all that I need. If more is required I would add:
Barbarian (Rage is unique ability, although it could be presented as feat)
Monk (unarmed combatant, could also be made as feat chain)
Favored Soul (If I need to choose some existing class with healing magics, it would be this)
Druid (I would prefer it as PrC for Scout)
