Cleric magic: spells or prayers?

I can't find the proper reference (searching the 4e enworld site). Is it true that they've changed the naming to prayers (it makes more sense than spells) or it it my broken memory/wild imagination/minddust effect/whatever?

If I'm reading R&C correctly per encounter powers are called battle prayers and per day powers are called spells (but I'm not positive on this one). Healing powers are called healing words and occupy their own slots. Clerics also have rituals, for non combat powers like healing persistent conditions, creating wards and raising the dead.

Incidentally, I hope that in 4th edition it will be harder to die, but raise dead gets bumped up as a high end epic power.

I was sure that I had read something on the wizards site about wizards having power words, spells and rituals, as against clerics having holy words, prayers and something... but I've done a quick look and couldn't find anything on there now.

I would agree. I hate to lose PCs, more as a GM than as a player. I write stories about the characters, hooked into their characters. When PCs die (especially because of really bad die rolling), it can ruin the chemistry of the game, as well as closing off plot lines that have been developing for a while. IMO PC death should be possible, just not as common as it is.

I have played D&D for 28 years, and am proud to say that I've only had one of my characters raised from the dead. The spell seems so cheesy (unless it's difficult and has some sort of cost - storywise, not xp related) that I feel it cheapens the game.

I hope they pick one and stick with it. Clerical/druidic/etc magic has always been this weird wavering between religious magic and direct invocation. I'd personally prefer the former, but a solid stance on either would be nice.
