Cleric nerf feedback.

I think Thanee's looking at the Core PrCs, like Loremaster and Thaumaturgist, which have lower HD, BAB and saves than the Cleric.

A cleric loremaster? I suppose you could do that, but I wouldn't. And the only way I'd do a thaumaturgist is as a wizard with Arcane Disciple who worships Trithereon (Summoning domain).

So if she's using *them* as the basis for comparison, yeah, I can see it. But I was thinking of Complete Divine when I said that.

I use the spontaneous casting Cleric from UA. Not exactly a big nerf but at least it makes
him more focused on his domain spells, and removes the strange fact that the cleric has a lot more
spells to choose from than the Wizard, whose whole stick is casting spells.

I use spontaneous casting for Clerics & other divine casters (they cast the regular number of spells/day and know as many spells as their spells/day table, sans bonuses, plus Inflict or Cure spells); it's not a big nerf but it limits them enough for my purposes, helps differentiate Clerics from each other (not every 9th level Cleric can Raise Dead), and speeds up gameplay (no more taking an hour of gametime to select spells before the Big Fight).

Yeah, this is a big factor. I once ran a very high level campaign with two clerics,
and they could easily spend half an hour perfecting their spell list each session.

Cleric's have no reason not to PrC!?

There are very few PrC out there, which retain the cleric's huge class progression.

I think cleric is one of the classes, which really does not gain much in power by picking up a PrC (there are exceptions, of course, like that Radiant Servant of Pelor).

Aah yes... I always forget I'm one of the few who bought the Faith & Pantheons book :p

That book has about twenty PrCls and I think only 5 or so don't have full-progression (a couple PrCl aren't for clerics, and 2-3 have near-full progression). However that's true that those PrCls had quite costly prerequisites and are planned for pretty specific deities.

I don't know if Complete Divine or other books avoided full-spellcasting PrCl for clerics completely.
