Clones Q&A

Well, following EU canon, cloning was outlawed after the end of the Clone Wars by the Emperor himself. Not that this means much, as knowing him, he'd go on cloning anyway if he felt like it. Just make that law so no one ELSE gets an idea on how to make a nice army.

That sounds EXACTLY like something Palpatine would do, and then clone himself a few dozen times and let himself grow up nice and slow and sane (?).

Clones were a disposable army created by the Emperor to fight the other disposable army of doids. The problem is we really do not know the shelf life of a clone, ie. do they say in their prime for 50 years or 2000, what this means is an Army that would need replacements when one dies.

According to Lucas and other sources, we do know how long they last.

They age at twice the normal rate all their lives. So, they don't last too long. This, coupled with the amount of losses taken in the Clone Wars, we're up to the third batch of Clones by RotS.

Hmm. If that's taken into consideration, and Palpatine dismantles the facilities after the war, then stormtroopers 20 years later are probably just regular troopers. I recall in the Zahn books that Luke could specifically sense the stormtroopers as clones.

I'm searching around for the link.. but recently Lucas stated that the Stormtroopers are a mix. The clones that are turned out plus recruiting and drafts on various Imperial planets. He said that after the furvor of the Empire swept up the galaxcy then people joined up and were recruited into the ranks...

If you could find that it'd be great. I've only seen him specifically state that Stormtroopers are clones, and my own trying to work EU with the movies has me placing them as a mix. But if Lucas actually said that it'd be a very nice thing to hear. :)

I'd say the clones detereorated over time. That explains why they seem quite competent in II and III and seem to be unable to hit the broad side of a barn by IV :)

again, what is the life expectancy in Star Wars, with cyborg parts and such, in the US it is 74 years, SW could be 120. don't get me wrong, I don't think you want them around too long just until you have your Death Star.

Stormtroopers are a mix of original JF clones and other clones as well as recruits (and actuallly conscripts from the way he puts it).

That sounds correct, from the comic books, many times, I have different faces of stormtroopers being portrayed. Wait...in fact, there was such illustrated book, done by Dark Horse comics...way back then. So, yes, clones will be replaced by a recruit drive...for humans only.
