We can fight destiny.

It is always better to fight destiny, otherwise you are an unimportant spec doing nothing to shape your own destiny, passive and worthless.

There is no such thing as 'destiny'. Humans are creatures of free will. Our choices determine our life and 'fate'. The future is not written and is determined by what we do today. So make today count!

Well, if by Destiny you mean the blind future-seeing chick from the X-men comics, of course you can fight her -- She'd dead now, so it would be even easier than before, but she was always a pushover anyways. As for the rest -- if there's anything the Matrix has taught me, it's that nothing is inevitable, no matter how much you try to convince Mr. Anderson that it is.

To be a Hero is to stand apart from Destiny. If your actions were merely Destined, there would be no Heroism, only Inevitability. Do not accept that any Fate is destined, or any course inevitable, especially not one decreed by the treacherous powers of the Dark.

So do not yield to the temptation of the easy path. On it, though you take it with good intentions, is only despair and failure.

If the world was destined to end, the Canticle wouldn't have to reform and change itself each time it is defeated; true, it seems like a march to the end with no hope in sight, but the fact that it can be averted in whole or part means it is not predestined, but only possible - for that reason the question is somewhat flawed, but nevertheless we can fight the Canticle and struggle on to the bitter end because it can be temporarily prevented - better to buy oneself a moment of calm for the world than to accept the end prematurely.

Does that answer your question (in one hell of a run-on sentence)? :)

That is an awesome quote! I'm definitely inspired for the game I'm running tonight.

Quite astute. As are all of these answers. The book has tons of clues like this.

Destiny is the bitter leech; no matter the twists & turns you take to escape it, it is always there---sucking the life from you until it is filled.
