Target - Each creature in square. - How can you get more than 1 creature in the square? This is why I am confused.

Rider and mount would be in the same square.

I immediately thought of a a large number of kobolds with X's for eyes laying straight as boards and stacked up like wood in a cord. Not sure what they're stacked up like that for but....

I like Cloud of Daggers simply because it's another way to stay involved in the game until my turn comes up again since I've got 1 square covered and get to mark it on the grid each turn. Firing a single Magic Missile on my turn is easily forgotten by me and everyone else at my table, only standing out as useful if it actually downed an enemy (which is rare given monster HP in 4e) and except at the larger ranges I can still use Cloud of Daggers if need be in most occasions.

Magic missile is quite forgettable.
Scorching burst is way cooler (or hotter as the case may be).

There are also items, etc., that allow you to increase the area of a burst or blast.

They would have no effect on Cloud of Daggers as it is neither a burst or blast.

If it was phrased as they increased all areas by X then it would work. Which items are you thinking of?
