Col. Pladoh! Question about DnD cartoon characters!

Hey there,

DnDChick is trying to convert the cartoon characters to 3e (LOL), and there is some debate as to what exactly Dungeon Master and Venger *are.* Some of us think Dungeon Master is a halfling, some a gnome, and nobody really knows what the heck Venger is supposed to be... In one episode he appeared as "Hector the Halfling" leading some to believe that was his original form (?!) before he turned to evil. :D

So, what the heck were these two guys?

BTW: Venger was my favorite cartoon villain for a few years growing up.

The thread is here:

PS: Did you see the "tribute" to the DnD cartoon in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (in the back of the Adventurer's Mart store in Athkatla). They said Bobby the Barbarian and Uni were eaten by Tiamat, hehe!

What is the likelihood the DND cartoon will end up on the Cartoon Network, on DVD/Video as a collectors set, or just available to the general public at some point????

I am dying to get get my hands on the shows. They were corny, but fun. I waited every week to catch that show!

(Who owns the rights to them? TSR/WOTC or the production company?)

Taren, you can buy vidoes of it here:

Go to the Cartoons section, then scroll down to items 138-145 (I think). They sell them in a local comic shop I go to and I managed to get the website of the place they buy them from.

As for the DnD cartoon, I loved it too! I read somewhere on the net about plans for a final episode that never happened where Venger was actually Dungeon Masters son! The kids were given a choice between going home finally or breaking the curse on Venger and reverting him back to being DM in training like he was originally. And then the story ends without telling you what choice they make.

I think it would be awesome to make a new D&D cartoon where the new 3E type characters show up in the land and rescue/send home the original group of kids who have been trapped in stasis for a long time by some spell. Maybe even make it where this new group can go back and forth between our world and the D&D world at will. Kind of a Digimon type series with long arcs of great plot.

Anyway, I've babbled enough for now.

Rights are owned by Saban or Disney

Hi guys,

Last year, Fox Kids ran the Catalog of the D&D Cartoon. Virtually intact, save for the minute "drops" that occur when something goes into syndication. Aparently, Saban Entertainment, the guys who make Power Rangers, own it.

The rights may have been transfered to Disney, because I believe they purchased all of the Saban properties (or at least many of them) when they purchased FoxFamily to become ABC Family.

Thus, someday you might see it on ABC Family.

Basically, the only reason the Cartoon came back was Presto looks a lot like Harry Potter, and commercials on Fox made it look like he was the star. LOL!

I use to watch that cartoon. I liked it.

As far as I knew, Venger was just a human, but he had a lot of cool magic items. Frost brand sword for one.

Can we name all the characters? I know I can not.

Bobby the Barbarian with his club of 'earthquakes'
Eric the Cavaliar with his shield of invulnerability
Uni the Unicorn with his magic horn
Presto the Magician with his hat of tricks

There was the Ranger guy with Gesen's Bow
The girl Thief with a cloak of invisibility
The girl Acrobat with a staff of growing

I can never remember those last three's names.

]I always got the impression that Uni was a girl for some reason.. was it ever mentioned? Anyone know?

Presto the Magician with his hat of tricks

There was the Ranger guy with Gesen's Bow

Keith was our Ranger

The girl Thief with a cloak of invisibility

Shiela was our Thief

The girl Acrobat with a staff of growing

Diana was our Acrobat

I can never remember those last three's names.

That cartoon initially got me into D&D, I loved it. :)

Col. Pladoh! Wherefore art thou?

(annoying teacher nitpick mode)

"wherefore?" means "why?"

As in, "Col. Pladoh, oh Col. Pladoh, why are you Col. Pladoh?" :D

(/annoying teacher nitpick mode)

I was introduced to D&D by the cartoon too - would love to see it show up on Boomerang or Cartoon Network.

Anyone else here of an appropriate age to have played with the LJN action figures that were around the same time the series was on TV?
