A side note to whether unupdated materials are considered "dropped" by WotC...well in effect they are. Since the 3.0 splats are out of print, WotC is essentially retiring all of that content. Of course we all can use the material, but in a few years, we will be the only ones.
Even though WotC has said in a few different ways that the splat materials are all still valid, in practice they aren't supporting that. I'm not complaining about it since it is unrealistic to expect them to keep the splats in print but I'm just pointing out the discrepancy.
I wonder how a single large book of definitive updates would sell. I would envision it collecting all of the PrC's, feats and spells that the Complete series skips with minor revisions to make them completely 3.5 compliant. Development costs would be pretty low, it might be profitable.
