Complete Divine info?

A side note to whether unupdated materials are considered "dropped" by WotC...well in effect they are. Since the 3.0 splats are out of print, WotC is essentially retiring all of that content. Of course we all can use the material, but in a few years, we will be the only ones.

Even though WotC has said in a few different ways that the splat materials are all still valid, in practice they aren't supporting that. I'm not complaining about it since it is unrealistic to expect them to keep the splats in print but I'm just pointing out the discrepancy.

I wonder how a single large book of definitive updates would sell. I would envision it collecting all of the PrC's, feats and spells that the Complete series skips with minor revisions to make them completely 3.5 compliant. Development costs would be pretty low, it might be profitable.

Animal Lord, Tamer of beasts and Verdant Lord aren't included in complete Divine, making me think there's 5 books instead of 4. Complete Arcane, Complete Rogue(?) and complete (woodlands??) The RPGA's Living Greyhawk supplemental .pdf has some of the newer classed from CD listed like Rainbow Servant and Seeker of the Misty Isle.

But the RPGA has said there's going to be four books.

Regardles, thanks for that list Bill. I'm interested to see what changes they made to things like the contemplative (please don't make it so you need spell casting first!!) which worked fine under 3.5. And also interesting to see how much BoVD stuff made it in, when there doesn't seem to be any BoED reprints.

Olive- I suspect that the reason so much BoVD made it in vs. BoED is that BoVD was 3.0 and BoED was 3.5. Could be wrong though, I'm just guessing.

With the MinisHB and UA (spontaneous divine caster) out, doesn't the favored soul strike anyone else as redundant?

Just going back to Psion's original question: No, I don't think it's redundant.

I do think that there is a certain need for a spontaneous divine-caster. It's such an obvious concept that I wouldn't be surprised to see it in 4E.

Given that there should be a spontaneous divine caster, where should it be presented? Both of the books that such classes have been in are very specialised. The Miniatures Handbook, much though I like it, really only appeals to players of both the Miniatures game and the RPG. (And not even all of them!)

Unearthed Arcana isn't reallyfor your average player - well, not in my estimation, anyway. It is for people who want to go beyond the standard game, and who are very comfortable with modifying rules.

So, given that both books are unlikely for most players to get, and it's quite likely that there's a desire for spontaneous divine casters, where should such a class be placed? Obviously, in Complete Divine.

As to why the selection of the Favoured Soul over another class? I suspect it has seen more playtesting and development than any other option native to WotC. (I'm going to cheerfully ignore any non-WotC spontaneous cleric, because I believe WotC look within their own ranks first for such things).

Cheers!

Evangelist PrC?

One thing I'm interested in seeing is how they've turned the Evangelist into a PrC. As it was originally a spontaneous divine caster Core class alternative (in Dragon 311), perhaps this is now the path that Favored Souls can take to pick up domain spells. Have it require spontaneous divine casting as a prereq (probably casting 3rd level spells), and a FS could then switch over after 6th level to start gaining domain spells/abilities. I'm particularly interested as I have a Core evangelist in my game right now...

Ah, good to see some old favorites like the hospitaller, miasma and favored soul all get some (much needed) reworkings. Bravo!

Shugenja: interesting. The ORIGINAL OA divine class returns. Pepare now for the inevitable comparisons to the OA Shaman/ShuKENja classes...

Whats with all the animal feat... Druid's gift I suppose...

Spontaneous Healer
Spontaneous Summoner
Spontaneous Wounder

These are already class abilities, wonder what the feats are...

True Believer
Wolverine's Rage

Someone at WotC must like Marvel Comics...

Lastly, it looks like the presitge domains are back, based on the spells section

How will the favored soul get reworked? I've got one in my Dragonlance campaign right now, though I let him use the druid spell list instead of the cleric one. Are they cutting back all the good saves, perhaps?

I also think it's odd that the mystic, which is the Dragonlance Campaign Setting's spontaneous divine spellcaster, isn't being used in the Complete Divine. Then again, it only gets one domain, so classes like the evangelist walk all over it.

Cheers,
Cam

I'd bet that the Spontaneous Doer feats allow people to cast those spells spontaneously, even when they normally can't. So, for example, a druid could pick up Spontaneous Healer, and swap out prepared spells for either summon nature's ally or cure spells.

If so -- cool! Finally, my villainous clerics won't have to waste spells prepared on $*&#$ cures to keep themselves alive. ;)
