[Complete Scoundrel] Uncanny Trickster & Rogue

I have just recieved my copy of Complete Scoundrel and something stuck out at me. The Uncanny Trickster. Is there any reason that a rogue wouldn’t take this 3 level prestige class? Aside from delaying SA a level & messing with your bab.

The way I see it Rogue has one dead level at the end that no one really wants to take. But with this prestige class you lose one level of advancement and the other two levels of the class you gain the trick features as well as gaining +1 level of existing class features. The hit die is the same…skill points the same. BAB & Ref Saves on the slower path…yes, but you gain a bonus trick per class level & allows you to use one trick per level twice per encounter!!!(a different trick per level you can’t pick acrobatic backstab at each level)

You lose one level of rogue gain the bonus trick & favorite trick then the following levels you gain the tricks & rogue class features. I can’t see a reason not to do this can anyone else?

You will probably get more answers once more people actually have the book. You are one of the first as far as I can tell to receive the book.

It's a very forgiving class with the +1 class feature level at 2nd and 3rd. You need 4 tricks to get in and you get 3 more with it however. 7 tricks is a lot, very few characters would use that many. So I think losing the one level of class feature is probably not worth it to most characters. Maybe once more tricks that are even more overpowered come out with future books it'll become a class of choice.

I had a long, hard look at it tonight, and liked what I saw. It's a simple concept for a PrC that is well-executed and meshes very nicely will all sorts of other rule sub-systems. Good game designer, here's a biscuit! :)

Note that it does not only delay your SA acquisition but also the effective level.

Thus, a 12th level rogue can SA a fighter 4/barbarian 8 when flanking him, while a rogue 9/UcT 3 can't.

Also, you can now be Sneak Attacked yourself by a rogue only three levels higher.

It is not a big drawback, but it should at least be noted. That 20th rogue level is not totally dead - it is only very, very close to it.

I don't see a need for seven skill tricks in most cases. Not to mention that delaying yourself a level turns a dead level at the end of your career into a merely comatose level some point before then.
