Gibberlings, for the sheer mindless swarm mentality.
As for self sacrificing, nihilistic, but presumabaly intelligent humanoids, how about mogrelfolk cultists. Mongrelfolk are generally not braveherated, but maybe theyve come under the influence of a Kali-like death cult.
Or maybe they think that killing enemies gives them strength- I think there was something klke this in Gene Wolfe's The Knight, the Osterlings, a cannibal race who tried to become more human by eating the flesh of humans.
Of course you could apply this to any mook, but mongrelfolk seem more susceptible to this sort of thing maybe.
Or in a nod to World of Warcraft you could just have a flood of gnomes.. the horror, the horror.
