As for your question: I don't believe thinking in terms of "slots" is helpful: a character can concentrate on one thing at a time, period.

Yeah, just think of it as a type of Action. A special continuous action. And note that whenever you cast a new spell/discipline that requires concentration, the old one automatically drops.
 

Actually, I just realized that this is totally clear and everyone is just not remembering the entire concentration rules:

  • Casting another spell that requires concentration.

So yeah. The this kind of thing is right out.
 

Nothing else to add, other than I'm hoping Jeremy Crawford's "Rules as Fun" term keeps spreading. It's a great shorthand way for legitimizing house rules as just as valid to a home table as book text or "voice from on high."
