Converting Greyhawk monsters

Then we might as well do a combined conversion, huh?

Yes, the Fiend Knights are pretty obviously a synonym for the Demonic Knights of Doom, since their units use the same emblems (tan horse & bronze baboon) as two of the Demonic Knight's units.

The main difference is the Demonic Knights also have a horse-archer regiment.

Oh, and I like the fact the Lesser Marshall has a +4 mace of disruption - presumably it is for keeping his undead thralls in line!

Getting started: ability bonuses. Fiendish critters don't get any, other than bumping Int to 3, but half-fiends get Str +4, Dex +4, Con +2, Int +4, Cha +2. I'd just give these the physical score bumps, though I could see reducing to Dex +2 based on the original text.

EDIT: which undead thralls? Remember, these are Outsiders. ;)

Since their Int is so good, and since most are leaderly types, I'd recommend keeping all the mental boosts as well. (Knights are generally charismatic, anyway). I'm fine with lowering the Dex or keeping it the same as the half-fiend.

Their Int is only 11-12, which in 3.X terms is actually only average or very slightly better. Tell you what, let's do Str +4, Dex +2, Con +2, Int +2, Cha +2. Fair enough?

As they're crack hand-selected knights I'm presuming these chaps will have the elite stat array (plus at least one level-based ability boost for being 4th+ level), so we don't need to go that overboard with the racial bonuses.

That said, I would boost the Charisma bonus to +4.

Added to Homebrews.

In all three examples, it looks like the lowest-level/HD is 4. So limit these to 4th-level fighters? Rather than being that specific, just require the base creature possess the Weapon Specialization feat (only available to fighters of 4th+ level)? That way creatures with fighterish prestige classes can qualify.

Limit it to humanoids that meet the prereqs, or broaden it to other types?

I'd keep it to humanoids and maybe monstrous humanoids, and I like the Weapon Spec requirement.

Don't like restricting it to humanoids, "any living corporeal creature" would suit me better.

The Weapon Specialization prereq is a good idea, certainly better than the most obvious alternative of a +4 BAB.

They'll also have an "evil alignment" prereq, of course.
