Crystaltbrittle (Su/Sp??): X/day, a ch'i-lin may produce an aura of golden flame around itself, which lasts for X rounds. Any weapon that strikes the ch'i-lin while it is so protected has its hardness reduced by 5 for 10 rounds, thereby increasing the effectiveness of sunder attempts against the weapon. In addition, rolling a 1 on an attack with an affected weapon causes it to take damage equivalent to the amount it would have dealt on a successful hit.

What if it's part of a sunder attempt?

Crystalbrittle (Sp): X/day, a ch’i-lin may reduce the hardness of a weapon it strikes as part of a successful sunder attack by 5. This reduction in hardness applies to the initial sunder attempt and lasts for 10 rounds. In addition, rolling a 1 on an attack with the targeted weapon causes it to take damage equivalent to the amount it would have dealt on a successful hit. This is the equivalent of an Xth-level spell.

If it's a touch attack, you mean a touch against the creature holding the weapon?

That looks a decent start.

If I remember correctly, the crystalbrittle spell only affects metal objects, but your version works on any type of object. Which do you want to use?

Shouldn't it reduce the armor bonus of armour as well?

Let's stick with that unless Cleon objects strenuously. As for metal or not, I think it can work just as well vs any weapon if we wish, since we don't have an exact SLA to convert.

Thoughts on times/day, Su vs Sp?

Agreed on no material limitations. Spell-like and 3/day? Equivalent to 4th-level spell and lasts 1 round/level (like fire shield)? Caster level 20th?

Crystaltbrittle (Sp): 3 times/day, a ch'i-lin may produce an aura of golden flame around itself, which lasts for 1 round per caster level. This is the equivalent to a 4th level spell. Caster level 20th.
