Description.

Background.

Opal speaks many languages, including Draconic, Abyssal, Celestial, and Common, though he can converse with any intelligent creature.

Combat
Tactics.

Alternate Form (Su): Opal can assume any animal or humanoid form of Huge size or smaller as a standard action. He can also assume the form of any of the neutral dragon varieties he rules over of any age category from wyrmling to great wyrm. The Moon Dragon can remain in an alternate form until he chooses to assume a new one or return to his natural form.

His natural form can be any size between Tiny and her normal size of Colossal and can assume the shape but not the coloration of any neutral dragon, including wingless and legless species (he can still fly magically in wingless forms). Opal can resize and reshape his natural form as a free action once per round.

Breath Weapon (Su): Opal has the breath weapons of an amber dragon, jacinth dragon, jade dragon, moonstone dragon, Mystaran jade dragon, Mystaran onyx dragon and pearl dragon. Opal uses his breath weapons as a standard action. Once the Sun Dragon uses a breath weapon, Opal can't breath again until 1d2 rounds later.

If the campaign includes other species of dragon with an "always neutral" alignment Opal may be able to use their breath weapons too.

Once Opal uses a breath weapon, he can't use that specific breath weapon again until 10 rounds have passed. He may still use a different dragon's breath weapon that has the same effect. For example, Opal can use his jacinth dragon's scalding breath weapon and then use his pearl dragon's scalding breath weapon 1d2 rounds later, but would have to wait 10 rounds before using his jacinth dragon breath weapon again.

Details of the Sun Dragon's breath weapons are as follows:

DragonBreath WeaponShapeDamage/Effect
Ambersuperheated sap80 ft. cone24d12 fire plus entangled 12d4 rounds¹
Jacinthscalding air80 ft. cone24d12 fire plus ignites
unattended combustibles
Jadesonic energy80 ft. cone24d12 sonic plus deafened 36 rounds
and unconscious 12 rounds²
Moonstonemotes of light80 ft. cone24d12 plus dispel magic and 1 hour of sleep³
Mystaran Jadecorrosive gas80 ft. cone24d12 acid
flesh-rotting gas80 ft. cone4d6 Con and 4d6 Cha⁴
Onyxinky black acid80 ft. cone24d12 acid plus darkness 12 rounds⁵
Pearlscalding steam80 ft. cone24d12 fire
Targets exposed to the Sun Dragon's breath weapons can attempt DC 48 Reflex saves to take half damage.
1. Targets that fail their save against his amber dragon breath weapon are entangled in superheated and very sticky sap for 12d4 rounds. An entangled creature can make an opposed strength check against the breath weapon's DC to break free as a standard action. Creatures that are immune to fire must still make a save against the breath weapon to avoid getting entangled.
2. Anyone in the cone of the jade dragon breath weapon who does not make a successful Reflex save versus damage must also make a Fortitude save (at the same DC) or be deafened for 36 rounds and rendered unconscious for 12 rounds.
3. All magical effects within the cone of the moonstone dragon breath weapon are dispelled or suppressed as by greater dispel magic at caster level 20th, except for magic effects needed for the immediate survival of the targeted creature (for example, water breathing for an air-breathing creature underwater). In addition, all creatures within the cone must succeed on a Fortitude save or sleep for 1 hour.
4. The Mystaran jade dragon's second breath weapon is a cone of putrid swirling brown and yellow and green gas that rots the flesh of living creatures and instantly rots and destroys any nonorganic matter it touches. Attended and magical organic items receive Reflex saves to avoid this effect. Living creatures suffer ability damage.
5. Targets caught in the cone of the Mystaran onyx dragon breath weapon are also shrouded in darkness (as per the spell). The darkness lingers for 12 rounds. The darkness clings to any targets that fail their Reflex save against the breath weapon. Otherwise, they can escape the darkness which remains as a cone.

The save DCs are Constitution-based.

Crush (Ex): When flying, Opal can land on opponents three or more sizes smaller than himself as a standard action, using his whole body to crush them. A crush attack affects as many creatures as can fit under Opal's body. Each creature in the affected area must succeed on a DC 48 Reflex save or be pinned, automatically taking 4d8+31 points of bludgeoning damage. The save DC is Constitution-based. Thereafter, if Opal chooses to maintain the pin, treat it as a normal grapple attack. While pinned, the opponent takes crush damage each round.

Frightful Presence (Ex): Opal can unsettle foes his mere presence. The power takes effect automatically whenever Opal attacks, charges, or flies overhead. Creatures within a radius of 360 feet are subject to the effect if they have fewer than 50 Hit Dice. An affected creature can resist the effects by making a Will save (DC 46). A successful saving throw makes a creature immune to Opal's frightful presence for one day. Creatures with 4 Hit Dice or fewer become panicked for 4d6 rounds if they fail their saving throws. Creatures with 5 or more Hit Dice become shaken for 4d6 rounds if they fail their saving throws. Dragons ignore the effects of Pearl's frightful presence. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Immunities (Ex): Opal is immune to acid, breath weapons, charm, cold, death, disintegration, electricity, fire, hold, paralysis, sleep, slow, sonic and poison effects. Opal ignores the effects of spells and spell-like abilities of 6th level or less, just as if the spellcaster had failed to overcome the Sun Dragon's spell resistance.

Keen Senses (Ex): Opal sees four times as well a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. Opal also has darkvision out to 120 feet.

See Invisibility (Ex): Opal has the extraordinary ability to see invisible creatures. This works like the see invisibility spell with a range of 1,600 feet. This power is always active.

Spell-Like Abilities: At will—spells (DC ##); #/day—spell (DC ##). Caster level 20th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Spells: Opal is a 20th-level sorcerer and a 20th-level cleric. The Sun Dragon can also cast cleric spells and spells from cleric domains as arcane spells… .

Water Breathing (Ex): The Sun Dragon can breathe underwater indefinitely and can freely use her breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.

Treasure: Triple standard
Alignment: Always chaotic neutral
Advancement: —
Level Adjustment: —

An awe-inspiring dragon whose form subtly shifts between the shapes of different types of dragon. Its scales are pale white like moonlight and gleam with the subtle iridescence of a pearl.

The Moon Dragon, or Pearl as she is also called, is an immortal dragon who rules over Chaotic dragons. In her full glory Pearl is larger than any great wyrm among the mortal dragons. She answers to no one except The Great Dragon who commands all dragonkind. There are two other Dragon Rulers who directly serve The Great One: Diamond the Star Dragon, who rules Lawful dragons, and Opal the Sun Dragon, who rules Neutral dragons. Pearl sometimes meets with Diamond and Opal but avoids dealing with other Dragon Rulers such as Bahamut, Ruby, or Tiamat.

The Moon Dragon Ruler rarely visits the Prime Material, she usually appears to deal with some matter affecting a large number of Chaotic dragons or at the Great Dragon's direct bidding, although some visits have seemingly been whims inspired by her Chaotic temperament. When she does appear, Pearl is normally accompanied by multiple great wyrms. Her attendants always include four Mystaran amber great wyrms and maybe another five or so Chaotic dragons (usually a black, brass, copper, red and white great wyrm). Her palace on the Plane of Limbo is staffed by many more Chaotic creatures, not all of them dragons. The Moon Dragon's courtiers and palace followers all worship Pearl with fanatical devotion.

Pearl's natural pearlescent dragon form is mutable and can change size and shape at will as described under her Alternative Form ability. Her normal Colossal size can range from 100 to 300 feet in length (including tail) and weighs 50 to 1,000 tons..

Pearl speaks many languages, including Draconic, Abyssal, Celestial, and Common, though she can converse with any intelligent creature.

Combat
As befits her chaotic nature, Pearl is highly unpredictable in combat. Her incredible mind and eons of experience mean her her tactics should always be inventive and effective even if her actions seem random. She enjoys melee combat, and her Dire Charge and Automatic Quicken Spell feats allow her to make a full attack and cast a quickened spell every round.

Alternate Form (Su): Pearl can assume any animal or humanoid form of Huge size or smaller as a standard action. She can also assume the form of any of the chaotic dragon varieties she rules over of any age category from wyrmling to great wyrm. The Moon Dragon can remain in an alternate form until she chooses to assume a new one or return to her natural form.

Her natural form can be any size between Tiny and her normal size of Colossal and can assume the shape but not the coloration of any chaotic dragon, including wingless and legless species (she can still fly magically in wingless forms). Pearl can resize and reshape her natural form as a free action once per round.

Breath Weapon (Su): Pearl has the breath weapons of a black dragon, brass dragon, copper dragon, Mystaran amber dragon, red dragon and white dragon. She uses her breath weapons as a standard action. Once she uses a breath weapon, Pearl can't breath again until 1d2 rounds later.

If the campaign includes other species of dragon with an "always chaotic" alignment (such as the mustard dragon or tourmaline dragon) Pearl may be able to use their breath weapons too.

Once Pearl uses a breath weapon, she can't use that specific breath weapon again until 10 rounds have passed. She may still use a different dragon's breath weapon that has the same effect. For example, Pearl can use her black dragon line of acid breath weapon and then use copper dragon line of acid breath 1d2 rounds later, but would have to wait 10 rounds before using her black dragon breath weapon again.

Details of the Moon Dragon's breath weapons are as follows:

DragonBreath WeaponShapeDamage/Effect
Amberjade-green gas80 ft. cone24d12 acid
plus 1d8/4d6 jade curse*
ruby-red flames80 ft. cone24d12 fire
plus 4d6/4d6 ruby curse*

slow gas80 ft. coneslowed for 1d6+12 rounds
Redflames80 ft. cone24d12 fire
Whitefrost80 ft. cone24d12 cold
Targets exposed to the Star Dragon's breath weapons can attempt DC 46 Reflex saves to take half damage.

*If they fail their Reflex save against one of her Mystaran amber dragon breath weapons, they must also attempt a DC 46 Fortitude save or contract a supernatural curse carried by the breath weapon, as follows.

Jade Curse: Objects and creatures affected by this curse begin to rot away. The jade breath curse does not affect anything made of metal or targets with a hardness of 10 or more. Creatures vulnerable to ability damage take 1d8 Constitution damage every minute, while targets immune to ability damage take 4d6 typeless damage every minute instead. Targets with immunity to disease take half damage. Damage caused by the jade curse cannot be repaired or healed until the curse is neutralized by any effect that cures disease, such as remove disease or heal.

Ruby Curse: This curse is harmless to creatures, but objects affected by it begin to melt away. Anything affected by the curse takes 4d6 fire damage plus 4d6 typeless damage every round.

The save DCs are Constitution-based.

Charm Reptiles (Sp): Pearl can use this ability three times per day. It works as a mass charm spell that affects only reptilian animals. The Moon Dragon can communicate with any charmed reptiles as though casting a speak with animals spell. This ability is the equivalent of a 1st-level spell.

Corrupt Water (Sp): Once per day Pearl can stagnate 10 cubic feet of water, making it become still, foul, and unable to support animal life. The ability spoils liquids containing water. Magic items (such as potions) and items in a creature’s possession must succeed on a Will save (DC equal to that of the dragon’s frightful presence) or become fouled. This ability is the equivalent of a 1st-level spell. Its range is equal to that of the dragon’s frightful presence.

Crush (Ex): When flying, Pearl can land on opponents three or more sizes smaller than herself as a standard action, using his whole body to crush them. A crush attack affects as many creatures as can fit under Pearl's body. Each creature in the affected area must succeed on a DC 63 Reflex save or be pinned, automatically taking 4d8+28 points of bludgeoning damage. The save DC is Constitution-based. Thereafter, if Pearl chooses to maintain the pin, treat it as a normal grapple attack. While pinned, the opponent takes crush damage each round.

Detect Gems (Sp): Pearl can use this ability three times per day. This is a divination effect similar to a detect magic spell, except that it finds only gems. The Moon Dragon can scan a 60-degree arc each round: By concentrating for 1 round it knows if there are any gems within the arc; 2 rounds of concentration reveal the exact number of gems; and 3 rounds reveal their exact location, type, and value. This ability is the equivalent of a 2nd-level spell.

Freezing Fog (Sp): Pearl can use this ability three times per day. It is similar to a solid fog spell but also causes a rime of slippery ice to form on any surface the fog touches, creating the effect of a grease spell. The Moon Dragon is immune to the grease effect because of her spider climb ability. This ability is the equivalent of a 5th-level spell.

Frightful Presence (Ex): Pearl can unsettle foes with his mere presence. The power takes effect automatically whenever Pearl attacks, charges, or flies overhead. Creatures within a radius of 360 feet are subject to the effect if they have fewer than 48 Hit Dice. An affected creature can resist the effects by making a Will save (DC 44). A successful saving throw makes a creature immune to Pearl's frightful presence for one day.

Icewalking (Ex): This ability works like the spider climb spell, but the surfaces the Moon Dragon climbs must be icy. It is always in effect.

Immunities (Ex): Pearl is immune to acid, breath weapons, charm, cold, death, disintegration, electricity, fire, hold, paralysis, sleep, slow, and poison effects. Pearl ignores the effects of spells and spell-like abilities of 6th level or less, just as if the spellcaster had failed to overcome the Moon Dragon's spell resistance.

Keen Senses (Ex): Pearl sees four times as well a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. She also has darkvision out to 120 feet.

See Invisibility (Ex): Pearl has the extraordinary ability to see invisible creatures. This works like the see invisibility spell with a range of 1,600 feet. This power is always active.

Luck Bonus (Sp): Once per day Pearl can touch a gem, usually one embedded in the dragon’s hide, and enspell it to bring good luck. As long as the Moon Dragon carries the gem, Pearl and every chaotic creature in a 10-foot radius per age category of the Moon Dragon receives a +1 luck bonus on all saving throws and similar rolls, as for a stone of good luck. If Pearl gives an enspelled gem to another creature, only that bearer gets the bonus. The effect lasts 1d3+?? hours but ends if the gem is destroyed. This ability is the equivalent of a 2nd-level spell.

Spell-Like Abilities: At will—astral projection, chaos hammer (DC 25), cloak of chaos (DC 29), detect law, greater dispel magic, greater teleport, locate object, plane shift (DC 28), protection from law (DC 22), speak with animals, telekinesis, word of chaos (DC 28); 4/day—suggestion (DC 24); 3/day—darkness (radius 200 ft.), endure elements (radius 200 ft.)(DC 22), fog cloud, gust of wind, insect plague, wall of ice (DC 25); 2/day—control weather, stone shape; 1/day—control winds (DC 26), discern location, disintegrate (DC 27), find the path (DC 27), foresight (DC 30), mass charm monster (DC 29), move earth, plant growth, transmute rock to mud or mud to rock (DC 26), wall of stone (DC 26). Caster level 20th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Spells: Pearl is a 20th-level sorcerer and a 20th-level cleric. She can also cast cleric spells and spells from cleric domains as arcane spells. Pearl has access to all the domains available to the chaotic dragons she rules (For the black, brass, copper, Mystaran amber, red and white dragons, these are Chaos, Destruction, Earth, Evil, Fire, Knowledge, Luck and Trickery). In her natural form, Pearl can cast her spells with but a word.

Summon Djinni (Sp): This ability, usable once per day, works like a summon monster spell, except that it summons one djinni. This ability is the equivalent of a 7th-level spell.

Spider Climb (Ex): Pearl can climb on vertical surfaces and ceilings as though using the spider climb spell. This ability also renders Pearl immune to grease effects such as that left by her freezing fog spell-like ability.

Water Breathing (Ex): The Moon Dragon can breathe underwater indefinitely and can freely use her breath weapon, spells, and other abilities while submerged.

Okay, I ran into an unexpected problem. The Master Set and Rules Cyclopedia entries say Pearl is a girl and the Great Dragon is a boy but does not specify a gender for the other two dragons.

Fortunately, I vaguely recalled that the Dragon Rulers have additional information in a Dragon article and that Opal appears in an adventure in AC10 - Bestiary of Dragons and Giants (1987) which identifies him as male.

The article was "The Mightiest of Dragons" in Dragon Magazine #158 (1986), which calls both Opal and Diamond "he". Unfortunately it also calls Pearl "it" rather than "she" despite the Moon Dragon's official stats specifying that she's female. Oh well!

More problematically, I've just noticed a few "his" in Pearl's entry that should have been "her".

Will have to comb through the entry and correct them!

It looks like the Pearl the Moon Dragon Working Draft was not as (Final!) as I claimed!

Always better to catch the errors before we "publish" them!

Working draft for Opal looks like a good start. Let's go with abilities first. Not a ton to go on except: spells are the same as Pearl, which suggests mental stats should be the same, and listed Int is also identical. Melee attacks are also boosted +4 in damage; that's hard to translate to 3.x since the different attacks get a different fraction of the Str bonus. But let's just say it's an extra +4 Str bonus, or a 8 higher Str. Breath weapons do +2 damage vs Pearl. It's not a great mapping, but let's say that corresponds to greater Con. And leave Dex the same. So maybe
Str 56, Dex 10, Con 39, Int 31, Wis 31, Cha 32 ??

I won't disagree with you there!

I would have no objection to shuffling the odd/even numbers to different positions while keeping the same modifier (i.e. instead of odd-CON even-CHA it becomes even-CON odd-CHA).

Melee attacks are also boosted +4 in damage; that's hard to translate to 3.x since the different attacks get a different fraction of the Str bonus. But let's just say it's an extra +4 Str bonus, or a 8 higher Str.

No, it's only the Bite and Crush that go up by +4 damage, the Claws/Kicks/Wings/Tail go up by +2 damage. That's a fine match to +4 Strength modifier from Str 56 or 57.

Breath weapons do +2 damage vs Pearl. It's not a great mapping, but let's say that corresponds to greater Con.

Where are you getting +2 breath weapon damage from? It's HD-based like a standard BECMI dragon? So I'd give it more damage dice.

Speaking of breath weapon damage, I just noticed a transcription error in the Dragon Rulers Original Stats. Opal's breath should have "Up to 216 hp" and Diamond should have "Up to 240 hp", not 214 and 249. All the BECMI Dragon Rulers have 8 hit points per Hit Dice, so Opal is 27×8=216 hp and Diamond is 30×8=240 hp.

Better fix that…
…fixed!

It's not a great mapping, but let's say that corresponds to greater Con. And leave Dex the same. So maybe
Str 56, Dex 10, Con 39, Int 31, Wis 31, Cha 32 ??

How about going in the opposite direction and reverse-calculating it?

The original Pearl has 192 hp and Opal has 216 hp.

Our conversion gives Pearl 48 HD and 888 hp.

We've given Opal 50 HD, so if we want to retain the ratio 216/192 to Pearl's hp he'd need…

888 × (216 ÷ 192) = 999 hit points.
=>
999 ÷ 50 = 19.98 hp per HD.
=>
Dragon's d12 is 6.5 per HD so that's a +13.48 modifier.

Hmm, that's inconvenient! You can't get +13.5 on a HD.

[Note: Using this approach Diamond's 240 hp translates to 1,110 hp, which'd be a +14.85 Con modifier for a 52 HD dragon.]

We could make it +13 modifier (Con 36 or 37) for 19.5 hp/Die, which'd give him 975 hp. At least that's a nice round number!

The closest to 999 hp we can get with a +13 Con mod is by adding an extra HD (19.5 × 51 = 994 hp).

I'd also consider a +14 Con mod for 1,025 hp acceptable.

We can get an exact HP proportion match by giving Opal 54 HD and keeping the Constitution 35 like Pearl (18.5 × 54 = 999 hp), but that has major knock-on effects with the saves and Special Attack DCs. All of the original Dragon Rulers have the same saves - as "Fighter 36" which, admittedly, is as high as the table goes as BECMI saves top off at 36th level.

I briefly toyed with the idea of just giving Opal and Diamond 48 HD and using increased CON for the extra hit points, but I don't care for it as the original monsters step up in HD.

Besides, you can't get that close to 1,110 and 999 using 48 × (d12 + Con):

Con 36/37 => 19.5 × 48 = 936 hp.
Con 38/39 => 20.5 × 48 = 984 hp.
Con 40/41 => 21.5 × 48 = 1,032 hp.
Con 42/43 => 22.5 × 48 = 1,080 hp.
Con 44/45 => 23.5 × 48 = 1,128 hp.

So the short version is, I'm fine with +8 Strength but aren't sure about the other stats.

I'd make no objection to having Opal and Diamond have slightly superior mental stats to Pearl and I do think they need higher Con scores, but I'd be OK with it being fairly modest.

For that matter, I'm tempted to have these conversions Strength and Constitution scores closer together. Maybe only with +2 steps rather than the +8 the original stats would suggest.

After all, in 3E a Great Wyrm Red Dragon is Str 45, Con 31 and a Gold is Str 47, Con 33.

When we get around to The Great One I think he/she/it's mental attributes should be way better than the Pearl, Opal and Diamond despite the Rules Cyclopedia saying they're all Intelligence 18. They are the Ultimate Dragon after all!

The AC10 version has a table column for breath weapon damage listing Pearl as 2d8 each, Opal as 2d8+2 each, Diamond as 2d8+4 each, and The Great One as 3d10 each. I don't know BECMI, so is that just purely from HD?

After all that, I'm still hearing something like this: Str 56, Dex 10, Con 39, Int 31, Wis 31, Cha 32. The 984 hp is about as close as we're going to get without changing HD. Do you want to bump the mental stats slightly too?

That's the column for Claws, Kicks, Wings, and Tail damage. The Breath Weapon damage equals current hit point as per standard BECMI/1E Dragons, so is up to 192 hp for Pearl, up to 216 hp for Opal, up to 240 hp for Diamond and up to 320 hp for The Great One.

I was thinking more Str 52, Dex 10, Con 37, Int 31, Wis 33, Cha 32 for Opal.

Maybe Str 56, Dex 10, Con 39, Int 33, Wis 33, Cha 32 for Diamond?

If we used the proposed +8 Str steps between each dragon, Diamond would have Str 64, Con 43 which is considerably higher than official Dragon Rulers such as:

Bahamut: Str 53, Dex 10, Con 39, Int 35, Wis 36, Cha 35.
Sardior: Str 49, Dex 22, Con 37, Int 33, Wis 34, Cha 33.
Tiamat: Str 49, Dex 10, Con 35, Int 28, Wis 25, Cha 28.

The Great Dragon can have stratospherically high stats though - he/she/it is the Greatest after all!

Ahh, ok, I get it. The column headers are misaligned. Even after all these years of conversions, I still don't know those 1980s rules very well.

Sure, your proposed ability scores will be ok.

What do you want to deal with next?

Updating Opal the Sun Dragon Working Draft.

Well I need to go through the Working Draft and add ALL the special abilities of the Neutral Dragons we assigned to Opal's dominion.

That seems such a slog I don't really want to deal with it at the moment! :p

Well, I'll start by editing the Alternate Form ability from Pearl (I think Opal is a "he" but couldn't find genders in the original stats):

Alternate Form (Su): Opal can assume any animal or humanoid form of Huge size or smaller as a standard action. He can also assume the form of any of the neutral dragon varieties he rules over of any age category from wyrmling to great wyrm. The Sun Dragon can remain in an alternate form until he chooses to assume a new one or return to her natural form.

His natural form can be any size between Tiny and his normal size of Colossal and can assume the shape but not the coloration of any neutral dragon, including wingless and legless species (he can still fly magically in wingless forms). Opal can resize and reshape his natural form as a free action once per round.

Ahem…

Oh well!

Opal and the Great Dragon are identified as male in BECMI sources, although Diamond's gender is unstated.

Alternate Form (Su): Opal can assume any animal or humanoid form of Huge size or smaller as a standard action. He can also assume the form of any of the neutral dragon varieties he rules over of any age category from wyrmling to great wyrm. Opal can resize and reshape his natural form as a free action once per round.

Yes, the initial update will just be copying over Pearl's common Dragon Ruler abilities and changing the names & genders, then adding ALL the special abilities of every Neutral Dragon he has listed in his portfolio.

That seemed such "fun" I just keep on procrastinating about it!

So many things to keep track of here! We should probably pick female for Diamond to make them somewhat balanced.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can put off until the day after tomorrow!

What would you like to work on next for Opal?

Balanced? As if 3.5 was ever balanced!

I'm more inclined to follow the original sources and leave Diamond's gender unstated. Just use "they" and the like if a pronouns required.

Well it's been more than one tomorrow so I'd better get started.

Just updated the Breath Weapons with the various neutral dragons.

Now it's time for the other special abilities/special qualities. Let's see what do we have…

Amber: blink, wild shape
Jacinth: blink, blinding hide, charm animal, suggestion, dominate animal, charm monster
Jade: immunity to sonic, plane shift, detect thoughts, shatter, sculpt sound, song of discord, demand
Moonstone: planar travel, Tasha's hideous laughter, awesome presence, deep slumber, dream, false vision, Otto's irresistible dance, temporal stasis
Mystaran Jade: camouflage, water breathing, enlarge, commune with nature, greater command, hold monster
Mystaran Onyx:
camouflage, blindsight, water breathing, hold animal, corrupt water, blight, black tentacles, contagion
Pearl: hold breath, blink, control water, beguile, hallucinatory terrain, solid fog, roar of freedom, control weather

Hmm, he has blink multiple times. Wasn't expecting that!

Most of them are SLA which are fairly straightforward.

Combining them all we have:

Spell-Like Abilities: At will—detect thoughts (DC ##), plane shift; 18/day—blink; 3/day—black tentacles (DC ##), charm animal (DC ##), control water (DC ##), deep slumber (DC ##), entangle (DC ##), false vision (DC ##), greater command (DC ##), hideous laughter (DC ##), hold animal (DC ##), sculpt sound (DC ##), shatter (DC ##), solid fog (DC ##), song of discord (DC ##), suggestion (DC ##); 1/day—blight (DC ##), charm monster (DC ##), commune with nature (DC ##), contagion (DC ##), control weather (DC ##), demand (DC ##), dominate animal (DC ##), hallucinatory terrain (DC ##), hold monster (DC ##), irresistible dance (DC ##), temporal stasis (DC ##). Caster level 20th. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

The other Special Attacks are mostly fairly straightforward:

Awesome Presence (Su): Moonstone dragons do not have a fear aura as do most other dragons. Instead, creatures with HD less than the dragon caught in the aura that fail their Will saves are fascinated while the dragon is present. After the dragon departs, they lose all memory of the encounter.

Beguile (Su): A jade dragon often speaks in riddles. When it speaks for one full round, all creatures within 10 feet per age category must succeed on a Will save or become enthralled (as the spell). Beguile is a sonic, mind-affecting, language-dependent charm effect. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by the same jade dragon's beguile ability for 24 hours. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Blinding Hide (Ex): In areas of natural sunlight or a daylight spell, a young or older jacinth dragon's hide reflects the sun so brightly that any creature within range (10 feet x dragon's age category) viewing the dragon must succeed on a Fortitude save (DC equals breath weapon DC) or be blinded for 5d6 rounds. A creature that successfully saves is instead dazzled for 1d4 rounds.

Camouflage (Ex): Since a Mystaran jade dragon looks like a green dragon in areas of shadowy illumination or darkness, it takes a DC 20 Spot check to notice its true nature. Anyone with ranks in Knowledge (arcana) can use that skill instead of Spot to notice the difference. Because the resemblance is only visual, creatures with the scent ability automatically notice the difference.

Camouflage (Ex): Since a Mystaran onyx dragon looks like a black dragon in areas of shadowy illumination or darkness, it takes a DC 20 Spot check to notice its true nature. Anyone with ranks in Knowledge (arcana) can use that skill instead of Spot to notice the difference. Because the resemblance is only visual, creatures with the scent ability automatically notice the difference.

Corrupt Water (Sp): Once per day an adult or older onyx dragon can stagnate 10 cubic feet of water, making it become still, foul, and unable to support animal life.

Dream (Su): As the spell, except that a moonstone dragon can only send itself to the recipient's dream at will as a standard action.

Hold Breath (Ex): A pearl dragon can hold its breath for a number of rounds equal to 24 x its Constitution score before it risks drowning.

Planar Travel (Su): A moonstone dragon can plane shift between the Ethereal Plane and the Material Plane or the Plane of Faerie (if it exists in your cosmology) as a standard action, though it takes care to avoid places exposed to direct sunlight.

Roar of Freedom (Su) Three times per day, an ancient pearl dragon can utter a thrilling roar that functions as a break enchantment spell on the dragon or a single willing ally within 30 feet. The caster level equals the dragon's caster level.

Wild Shape (Su): A young adult or older amber dragon can wild shape just as a druid of the same caster level, with the following restriction: The amber dragon can only assume animal shapes of tiny to huge size, and it can only choose one animal form for each use of wild shape it possesses. It need not use each wild shape use on a different animal. Thus a very old amber dragon could wild shape up to four times per day and has access to four different animal forms of tiny to huge size to choose from. If the dragon later gains the wild shape ability from class levels, the uses per day stack and it uses the limitations of its innate ability or the class, whichever is better for the dragon.

Okay, the above lists all the non-tweaked SLAs of the base Neutral Dragons.

Obviously I'll update or remove the (DC ##) for the finished version.

We need to add a few "dragon ruler SLAs" to the above. I suggest:

At will—astral projection, detect chaos, detect law, greater dispel magic, greater teleport, locate object, protection from chaos (DC ##), protection from law (DC ##), telekinesis;

Does that seem enough for Spell-Like Abilities?

That is a lot of special abilities even compared to Pearl I think. We're going to have to cut or combine some of those, or some poor DM is going to have a conniption.

As for the SLAs, that seems like plenty. I'd go ahead and just move blink to at will, since 18/day is so much anyway.

Already combined a bunch of the Neutral Dragons Special Attacks/Qualities to produce the Spell-Like Abilities - a lot of the SLAs were originally separate.

That left eleven SAs separate from the Dragon Ruler ones it has in common with Pearl who has… eight… chaotic-specific dragon SAs if I'm counting right.

We could fold the Camouflages together and make Awesomeness an option for its Frightful Presence, which'll cut out two.

That makes it nine SAs.

The Camouflage ability seems a bit pointless as Opal has Alternate Form and can just turn himself into another dragon if he wanted to conceal his true nature. Plus Spot DC 20 to notice the difference is so low for an Epic Level Creature it seems unlikely to work.

But then, a few of Pearls special abilities are so weak she'd not get much use out of them.

Level Up!
