Correlating age and start of playing polls

Were you born between 1968-73 and begin playing between 1977-82.

  • None of the above. (ie I discovered gaming while inordinately young or quite a bit later in life.)

    Votes: 54 14.5%

Born in 1970, gamed in 1981 with a Moldvay edition Basic Set for the first time. You've got me dead to rights. :)

None of the above. Born in 1962, discovered D&D in 1978 or perhaps 1977. I'm a little hazy about that. Started with the OD&D set (the three beige books in a box). Also, the age/time you started playing correlation thing is going to be skewed a bit in one way: we still have many, many gamers who had no opportunity to play before their late teens or early adulthood because the game didn't exist before then.

Born in 1968, started gaming in 1985.

It was really hard to get hold of gaming materials here in Norway, and very few people played roleplaying games. In my home town (Trondheim - third largest in the country with a population of 150.000) there were probably less than 15 people playing when I started.

I hope the dates are inclusive, as I don't want to screw up your data. I was born in 1973 and began gaming in 1980 or 81 so I selected That's me...

I didn't think about the between literally meaning between until after I hit the button.

Born in '73 and, although I didn't get too deep until '83 (i.e. picked up the red box), I played my first one-shot in '82.

The curve is scary on those other two polls. I know we've had the discussion before, but really, where is the new blood? Can the hobby sustain itself?

That makes it look like most people were on average 9 when they started playing, which seems a little young. QUOTE]

I started D&D when I was ten. My dad introduced me to board gaming and D&D. I think it also depends on the developmental maturity of the kid and their reading and mathematical ability.
