Cost of a wondrous item

I need to create a crown of mind blank and non-detection, how much would it cost? The DMG table explaining the cost of Magic Items doesn't show the cost for Permanent Spell Effect. Could someone help me?

Considering that a Use-Activated spell effect costs : Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp, I would say that a permanent Spell Effect would cost : Spell level x caster level x 5,000 gp. Too much, not enough?

Thanks for the answer!

Permanent and Use activated are the same thing. So a crown of mind blank would cost you spell level x caster level x 2,000gp and it would always be on. But why bother putting non-detection on there as well? Mind blank includes that.

I think when it comes to extremely powerful or high-level items, the best thing to do is just play it by ear. The rules as given in the DMG are really only guidelines, and work best for low- to middling-power items.

In this case, I'd compare it to existing items that also have powerful abilities. A ring of regeneration, for example, costs 90,000 gp, a ring of evasion is 25,000 gp, and a cloak of displacement (major) is 50,000 gp. A staff of power costs 200,000 gp, but that has lots of offensive spells as well; a mind blank item is essentially defensive. Note that the spell level x caster level x 2000 formula gives a base price of 240,000 gp!

I think a mind blank item is less powerful than a ring of regen, but more useful than a cloak of displacement. It certainly shouldn't be pricier than a staff of power. I'd price it at maybe 50,000 to 75,000 gp or thereabouts.

Oh, OK, sorry for the stupid question... Thanks anyway!

Guess I should have read the spell to the end! Thanks!

Yeah, I think 240,000gp is a bit pricey for that too.

It really depends on the nature of the campaign. In the typical dungeon crawl campaign this will see little use, but in a political/ espinage type game this item could be priceless.

... of course, this holds for just about _any_ magic item you care to name, not just the one that started the thread.

I know but it's hard to advise someone on the adjusted price of a magical item without knowing how it will be used and how useful it will be in the guy's game.
