Could an American write Doctor Who? - Babylon 5 creator throws hat in the ring

I'd prefer if he kept shopping around the B5 reboot, like he's been doing the last few years. And for me, with my dislike of reboots, that's saying something. The tech is around and he has the previous experience of completing several excellent story arcs, with the continuity assistance of Harlan Ellison, so there's potential for something special there.

Yeah. Admittedly, I have mixed emotions on this; on the one hand, the vast majority of reboots (like you, I dislike them generally) means that I don't have high expectations for it.

...on the other hand, B5 has such amazing world building it would be a shame not to re-visit it at some point.

(Still, the idea of "Babylon 5, but ... on the CW!" Think we might have dodged a bullet. .... then again ... sexy sexier Kosh? I'm down.)

Yeah, it might have been a bit tough to accept 18 year old Sheridan (played by a 30 year old actor) sleeping his way through the ambassadorial residences, while young Ivanova has trouble deciding whether she wants to be with hunky young Doctor Franklin or low cut dress wearing Delenn, with Lennier always watching from the shadows (pun intended).

On the bright side he might actually get a deal that doesn't result in the damned thing being all over the schedule and then switching networks, to make finding it even tougher.

My only issue with this is that the original B5 was a groundbreaking endeavor and I have a hard time envisioning a reboot also being groundbreaking, no matter how well it's written.

And I can absolutely see this point of view, as someone who generally has issues with reboots. I live in hope, for this one.

Sure, why not?

Though it might be easier to train a British person to write than teach an American how to be British enough for Doctor Who.

They could have an editor look over the script and edit in the Britishisms...but then they could equally take a bad script from a British amateur and edit in a story.

Wikipedia tells me he also was one of the writers on Thor (2011) and World War Z (2013).

As for not being from BritainandIreland, maybe that's less of a problem being the showrunner. Sure, he would be overseeing the tone and feel of the show, and be the head writer, but with an Atlantic Archipelago writers' room, maybe that's fine?

Holy cow... even Straczynski's Thor comic run was like 17 years ago.

I don't remember if I read all of it, but I remember this issue
Thor vs. Iron Man .
He's credited as a the writer of the animated movie "Babylon 5: The Road Home" from 2023. It was pretty good and had good continuity with the original series. Also the two "Watchmen" animated movies, that I think stuck closer to the actual comic story (2024).
