Counterspelling + Metamagic

If I have a 1st level spell Heightened to fill a 9th level spell slot, can it be counterspelled as easily by a wizard who has it memorized as a 1st level spell as it can by a wizard who has also Heightened it?

What about other metamagic feats? Can you counter a Quickened spell? An Energy Substituted one? Etc...?

Meta-magic feats have absolutely no bearing on whether a spell may be counterspelled or not.

Although Heighten Spell may make a difference against someone with Improved Counterspell. (I think that's the one - the feat that lets you counter with any spell of the same school and a higher level?)

yes, Improved Counterspell is the feat that lets you Counterspell with any spell of the same school but of a higher level, but as the quote says, you don't take into account the metamagic feat a spell is counterspelled, ie a Charm Person Heightened to 9th level can still be counterspelled with Tasha's Hideous Laughter (for someone with the Improved Counterspell feat).

I don't really agree.

A Heightened, Enlarged, Extended Haste spell is still a Haste spell, and can be countered by Haste, Slow, or any metamagicked version of either.

But Improved Counterspell doesn't care if you're casting Haste - it cares that you're casting a 3rd level Transmutation spell.

An Enlarged, Extended Haste spell is still a 3rd level Transmutation spell, even though it takes up a 5th level slot, so can be Imp. Countered by any 4th+ level Transmutation spell.

But a Heightened Haste spell isn't 3rd level any more. It's 4th. Or 7th. And so it can only be Imp. Countered by a 5th+ or 8th+ Transmutation.

Heighten tends to break certain general Metamagic rules because it actually changes a spell's level.
