Crafting a masterwork bow with Darkwood...

Questions

First Post
Under the description of Darkwood it says that Darkwood bows give bonuses equivalent to a masterwork bow… So if you craft a masterwork bow using Darkwood, would the bonuses stack?

Also, for the additional cost of a Darkwood bow it states that you add 10 gold for every pound of the item… So longbows would have +30 gold for 3 pounds… But what about the cost of a masterwork item? That is to say, if you are crafting a normal bow out of darkwood (which grants bonuses equivalent to a masterwork item) must you pay the price as if it were a masterwork item, or does it just cost the cost of the base bow +30 gold?

Any info or insight into the workings of Darkwood would be much appreciated.

"To determine the price of darkwood items, use the original weight but add +10 gp per pound to the price of a masterwork version of that item"

I think this is pretty straightforward and should clear up the pricing of a darkwood made item.

In case of a longbow, a longbow normally costs 75 gp. A masterwork longbow costs 300gp more. A longbow weighs 3 lbs. A darkwood longbow would cost 75 + 300 + (3 X 10) = 405gp.

A darkwood weapon is considered masterwork, so you can't make a masterwork darkwood longbow, since the cost of masterworkmanship is already included in the price of the bow.

I hope this clears up things.

Wen you make a masterwork item you pay more for materials because you are getting better quality materials. darkwood is an option for quality material.

How can you have a masterwork masterwork?

MW does not stack with itself (rather like bonuses do not stack) ... the only exception being ammo and their launchers.

if you're interested in a MW+MW type thingee, check out the Wheel of Time RPG. It has a Mastercraft item which gives +2 instead of +1 and costs double whatever a MW item would cost (so yah, in essence a masterwork masterwork item)
