First Post
Ok, I've been thinking about this for about a year or so, and seeing that my RL regulars unfortunately don't share my enthusiasm for the 17th century renaissance period, I thought I'd try my luck here.
I'd like to run a mature, immersive game, concentrating on the grittyness/rawness of the period - lots of bloody battles, rapine, pillage etc, etc. I would hope for some imaginative characters from varied backgrounds, though I would expect most to be commoners, which for whatever reasons have signed up to serve Great Britain against the rogue Emperor - Napoleon Bonapart.
Ideally I'd start the campaign in the year 1790(ish), a decade before Napoleon's real rise to power. I would hope to run through the entire period upto 1821, covering many locations; India, Egypt, Denmark, Portugal, Spain & France mainly - though I may try to get the West Indies involved too (Which COULD involve some Naval cobat) - depending on your characters behavior!
The play style would be verbose. Lot's of descriptive text. Lot's of fluff.
I'll probably be using the D20 Modern rules set, with a little help from D20 Past & 'From Stone to Steel'...
Characters will start as raw recruits, and depending on backgrounds, be a part of the same battallion. Due to the fact that MOST of your skills will be similar - i.e. Some profession/crafting skills (of your choice) and weapons skills (which you get lumbered with by me) - The character fluff is probably THE MOST important part.
No knowledge of the era would be even better - IF you were a raw recruit, you'd have to learn the Army's 'Code of Conduct' the hard way - which would make very interesting RPing between yourselves, the officers and the upper/noble classes!
If anyone is interested, let me know!
Like I said - This will be a hardcore game. No magic. No clerical healing. I request that under 18's sit this one out due to both abusive language (It's not as bad as today's, but still!) and the harshness of the theme (Which I hope will mimic reality, in a sadistic kind of way!)
(Sorry the post's a little shabbily composed, but I'm suffering from slight sleep deprivation!...)
Do not worry if you haven't the resources - we can work around that. Thanks.
Kind Regards
