CREATION GUIDELINES:

NOTE: No Magic campaign, though I may add superstitious artifacts with 'special' properties...

Campaign: 4th Mysore War, India
Source Books: D20 Modern Core, D20 Past
Ability Scores: 32 point-buy
Setting: Historic
Starting Level: 2nd
HP: Max HP at every level
Alignment: Any
Occupations: The only occupation that I can see not working are: Cosmopolitan, Cloistered, Celebrity, Emergency Services, Primative & Technician. Any other starting occupation in addition to the military occupation (gained @ 2nd level). Please note any changes from D20 Past.
Wealth: I am going to do away with the 'modern' wealth system. We will use the monetary system of the period (I.E. pennies, shillings & guineas) The conversion values are here:

1 Guinea : 20 Shillings : 240 Pence
1 Shilling : 12 pence

Which I think is easy enough?... As for starting equipment - just list what you want and I'll go through it, though I don't suppose you'll have much baggage anyway. In-game shopping will be done on a 'case-by-case' fashion until I can compile a list & prices - which may be extortionate due to war/availability. Any ideas are welcome on this point!!

NOTE: You will all get issued 'gear' from the army, so you only need worry about your personal belongings.

Classes (see D20 Past for updated 'terminologies') - as we go along, depending on how you playout your role, I shall either let YOU create your own PrC's, or make up some customizable templates for you to use. I was thinking PrC's like 'Sniper', 'Sapper', 'Skirmisher', 'Heroic Leader'?.. Maybe even something like 'Forlorn Trooper' - 'The Forlorn Hopes' were the battallions who were sent first through a breached wall, usually into a hailstorm of cannon, canister, musket & pistol shot! It was their job to get in, slaughter, and hold the walls for the main troupe - without getting torn to shreads that is!

Characters: Like I said in the initial post - interesting, deep, fleshed out characters is what I need. A good description, not just another bland face in the crowd. Personality - bring him (or her - A french WOMAN actually gained the rank of Capitain, and remained 'undetected' until her death at the age of 80 odd, during the Napoleonic wars!). Give them some quirks and stuff - drunkard, womaniser, prude etc, etc. I find the smaller details make for a better RPing session. You'll also find it easier to play your characters. Background - full & fruity! As much stuff in here as poss. Don't hold back! If it suits your character - mention it!; Friends and foes, family etc. Most importantly, give you reasons for joining.

I'm not sure WHERE or WHEN to start the campaign exactly, but with the information I have, I'd be more comfortable starting in the late 1790's. Again, I'm not sure how practical it'd be to start you off in Britain - it took 3 months aboard ship to get to india - But I'll worry about that hurdle after I've got your Backgrounds, and of course, what you guys want!

I think that's it. Shout at me if I've missed anything, and hopefully we can get this show on the road soon!

I apologize for I must bow out. This looks superb and if I had the proper time to really immerse myself in this setting I would love to, however due to my lack of experience with d20 Modern and Past, it would be too much of a hindrance. If this inconveniences this campaign in any manner (I don't see how it would), let me know and I will give it a go. I just am daunted by the prospect of creating a character.

(Tell me any edits I need to make, I believe it all is good)

Background: Most wealthy heirs live a pampered, luxurious existence, spoiled by the delight of excess and hedonism their parents' windfall has bestowed upon them. For Alexandre Tre'Razier however, this seemingly social paradise was swiftly snatched from him, and replaced with an existence of perpetual pain and misery.

Born in 1768 within the hills near Nice, the Tre'Razier family was one of the most opulent shipping magnates of an era. Controlling a vast armada of ships, they imported and exported from Asia and Africa, and made countless millions in the process. Raised in a magnificent estate, his father, Christophe Tre'Razier taught him the classics, philosohy, mathematics, and above all, honor, a trait that would endure with Alexandre for his entire life, to some degree or another.

Yet, with the outset of the Revolution, the collapse of the monarchy brought destruction to his own home as well, as Libertarians stormed through his family estate and burnt it to the ground, murdering his entire family as well. Staving them off for hours, Alexandre finally found himself surrounded, and was forced to surrender to their forces, in exchange for assured protection of his beloved Victoria.

The desecrated nobleman was sent off to a coastal prison, where he was tortured and deprived of basic human liberties, the so called “rights of man”, for 6 grueling years. Drug through hell and back, the only thought that left any sense of hope within the distrought soul was the alabaster beauty known as Victoria, his one and only, his very reason for enduring life this hellish excuse known as life. Determined to be reunited with her, he fainted death in a self-induced concussion and was tossed to the ocean, where after nearly drowning, he recovered and slowly made his way to the shores of France, assuming the identity of a local sharecropper to gain information about the location of his wife.

His sources led all over France, from Paris, to Poitiers and Orleans, before finally leaving only one final lead, a small farming village known as Butraix. Racing day and night to meet his beloved, he arrived to find a tattered, beaten woman, her body succored by the pillages of rape and drugs. Dementia had overcome her, and she no longer had any inkling of her history, seeing him only as a threatening and harmful creature, who she beat away with violent fervor. His heart shattered into thousand pieces, he came to the realization that the nation he had once known and loved was now but a sad shadow of it's former glory, and pledged to lay ruin to all French military who stood before him. Taking the nearest vessel to London, he revoked his French citizenship and attained a British home, upon the condition he served one decades time in the service. With a heart of revenge and a passion to kill, Alexandre Tre'Razier now finds himself within the ranks of the Royal Imperial Army.

Personality: Alexandre is a very deep, complex free-thinker, well studied in the works of Rousseau, Paine, and other influential philosophers of the era. Always seeing more in things than most do, he passionatly analyzes everything, to an almost nihilistic degree. His study has made him an extremely influential and amiable person, who truly personifies the motto of the pen being mightier than the sword. He makes extensive use of his persuasiveness and charisma, and avoids physical conflicts whenever he can get his way through rhetoric.

The sole passion and aim of Alexandre's life now is revenge, and a deep-seated hatred for the Revolutionaries who betrayed him so long ago. He scowls at the thoughts of revolutonary liberty and human rights, for in his mind, they are nothing more than false promises given to inspire misguided faith. He has little hope for the progress and potential of humanity, and utilizes his wit to attain his aims at all chances possible.

Appearance: 6'3, 170 pounds, soft, white skin, long blonde hair, striking blue eyes. His beautiful sapphire-like eyes show a sense of hopelessness and despair, reflecting the shattered condition of his soul.

DralonXitz - Phenomenal. Excellent work!! This is a prime example of what I'm looking for!

BTW - did you include the skills etc, for your 'military' occupation?

NOTE: LANGUAGES... Common is to be replaced with the language of your country. Additional languages - as per country. French, German, Spanish etc, etc.

Ethandrew - A shame, you would have been most welcome. If you choose to change your mind, I'll be here to help. I'm online for more-or-less 12 hours a day, 4 days of the week, doing nothing. If you wish me to help you with Character creation and anything else, I'd be MORE than happy to walk you through it.

EVERYONE ELSE: There should be another player joining 'the ranks' later - My bro said he'd love a pop at a pbp game. This will be his first. Tonight I'll help him make a character. I have pencil'd the first part of the campaign, including objectives - based on historical events, and am gearing up to start, I just need the rest of your submissions. I think this could be more fun than I first anticipated!

Doctor
Skills: Choose two of the following skills as permanent class skills: Craft (Pharmaseutical) +1, Treat Injury.
Wealth Bonus Increase: +4.
[/sblock]

Talents:
[Sblock=Linguist]Linguist: With this talent, the Smart hero becomes a master linguist. Whenever the hero encounters a new language, either spoken or written, that he or she does not know the Smart hero can make an Intelligence check to determine if he or she can understand it. The check is made with a bonus equal to the hero’s Smart level. For a written language, the bonus applies to a Decipher Script check instead.
The DC for the check depends on the situation: DC 15 if the language is in the same group as a language the hero has as a Read/Write Language or Speak Language skill; DC 20 if the language is unrelated to any other languages the hero knows; and DC 25 if the language is ancient or unique. With this special ability, a Smart hero can glean enough meaning from a conversation or document to ascertain the basic message, but this ability in no way simulates actually being able to converse or fluently read and write in a given language.
A single check covers roughly one minute of a spoken language or one page of a written language.[/sblock]

The only issue I have is the wthnic origin. Playing a chinaman within the ranks of the 18th Century British army would be suicidal. You'd be abused, picked-on, and in battle - used as a shield, more or less. If you could have a rethink? Realistically, British, French, Spanish, German and other european nationalities made up the best part of the ranks, but bare in mind, not being English vastly reduces the chance of promotion, and to a lesser degree, reward. Britian would rather glorify one of their own for propagana reasons alone...[/sblock]
