Well, the creature will most likely end up on Blacksways site (there's a link to it in the Creature Catalog main site, just click on new monsters, and you're there), which is an online resource for new D&D3E creatures

Ah, okay. I already went there to look at some conversions (and compare them with my own ).

Well, back on topic: if it's going to have Speak with Animals as spell-like or innate ability, I'd suggest Animal Empathy and/or Handle Animal for skills.

I second it, especially Animal Empathy.

Maybe give them a special (Ex) ability that allows them to use the Animal Empathy skill with plant creatures (of no or low Int score, -, 1 or 2) as well.

Plant Empathy (ex): the <name> may use it's animal empathy on any plant creature with an int score below 3.

... it doen't really matter as long as we do not try to make money from our collective creation (which we won't, am I right?).

Actually, it does matter, in case we want to put it on Blacksway's site, as he wants the submissions to adhere to the OGL. Thus, we should not use things that are not OGC.

Another option would be to put the creature into one of the free e-zines on the web, such as the Emerald Sage.

OK, for Skills, we have Krishnath's suggestions, plus Animal Empathy and Handle Animal. Should we limit us to the eight skills it can max out, or should we give it more skills? (Personally, I'm in favor of giving it more)

Can someone scan the SRD for appearances of Ability Focus? I'll try to do it myself, but I don't know when I get to do it.

Hey, if Ability Focus isn't OGL (but it will be, trust me), we could always use Great Fortitude or any number of other feats instead.

As for the skills, I say go with my eight and Animal empathy and handle animal.

No.

There's no "rock creatures", anyway (well, the closer you have is elementals (earth), like the MM2 Galeb Dhur).
