Creature Catalogue Overhaul Project Revisited

Hmm, we were thinking of 1d6 +1/2 Str claws for the big lizard, but I don't see anything about the hybrid. Still, 1d6 would probably work for base damage. Do we still want to give the hybrid a bite? I'm not sure it needs it.

I'd give the Hybrid form a bite damage. Standard lizardfolk can bite, and it would seem odd if the Lizlord couldn't.

How about 1d6 claws and a 1d8 bite? That's better than a lizardfolk's 1d4/1d4/1d4, but it is an Epic Monster. It's also a step lower bite damage than what we'd get if we downsized the Giant Lizard form's 4d6 bite to Medium.

I'm thinking 1d6 for the Lizard form's bite, which is what you'd get downsizing the Giant Lizard to Tiny.

I'm tempted to give it Chew and Improved Grab in lizard and hybrid form too - it still has the same natural equipment, just at smaller scale.

e.g.:

Chew (Ex): While in lizard, giant lizard, or hybrid form, the lizard lord deals automatic bite damage every round it maintains a grapple against an opponent smaller than itself.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, the lizard lord must hit with a bite attack. It can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If the lizard lord wins the grapple check, it establishes a hold and on the following round it can chew its opponent or, if it is in giant lizard form, attempt to swallow its foe.

The Swallow Whole can remain a Giant Lizard only ability.

We need to set some damage numbers for Swallow Whole and figure out the gizzard's AC and hp. The gizzard gets half natural armour, but does it get all the lizlord's luck, divine, insight, and deflection bonuses? That'd give it an internal AC of 48.

I'm not sure how you'd apply an insight bonus to the Armor Class of your own stomach - guess I don't have enough insight! Maybe it can see inside itself and knows when to hiccup to throw off an attack? ;)

Hmm, checking the Draeden it looks like I figured out the Gizzard AC correctly at 48 (or, at least, consistently) since that has the gizzard get full insight and divine bonuses.

For the damage, I guess bite damage (4d6+14) from crunching muscles plus, say 2d6+4 acid?

A tarrasque's stomach acids do 2d8+6 acid, a dire shark's 1d8+4, and I guesstimate the Lizard Lord somewhere inbetween.

Should we note that the Imp Grab only works against critters at least one size smaller? I'd be ok with adding it to the small lizard and hybrid, though it does seem a bit weird as an attack for a humanoid.

Your Swallow Whole damage seems ok. As for the AC, I never know what to think about the "extra" AC bonuses. I'd be inclined to give it the luck, divine, and deflection bonuses, but not the insight. However, we'd probably better stick to what we did with the draeden.

It's an Epic Creature, so it doesn't seem that unbalancing letting it cling on to a much bigger opponent with its teeth. If it bothers you I suppose it'd be OK to substitute "must hit a smaller opponent with a bite attack".

I don't mind leaving Improved Grab out of the other forms if you don't fancy it.

That was my thinking. Updating Lizard Lord Working Draft.

How many hit points damage should it take to cut through its Gizzard?

Let's say "up to one size category larger" for Imp Grab. I don't want a Tiny lizard putting the Tarrasque in a grapple!

30 hp to cut out of the gizzard?
