Creature Catalogue Overhaul Project Revisited

Let's say "up to one size category larger" for Imp Grab. I don't want a Tiny lizard putting the Tarrasque in a grapple!

Well if you insist, although I do like the image of a gecko pinning the Tarrasque to the ground...

Shall I update with that?

30 hp to cut out of the gizzard?

I'd accept that as a minimum, but prefer 40 hit points. He is Epic, after all.

So is that it for the special attacks?

I'm thinking we could tweak the spell-like abilities slightly - spider climb instead of hypnotic pattern maybe, to aid gecko-like "wall crawling", especially in human form?

We ought to add low-light vision and scent to the special qualities.

We gave the lizard "combat forms" DR 10/— instead of the Hawk Lord's improved evasion or the original Lizard Lord's immunity to blunt weapons.

Oh, and didn't we decide to give evasion or improved evasion to the Tiny Lizard form?

I'd better update the Lizard Lord Working Draft before I forget.

I feel like we were looking at some kind of synergy between hypnotic pattern and the gaze, but spider climb is ok with me.

Yes to low-light vision. I'm less keen on scent (pun intended), but I guess I don't object.

We gave Lady Hawk improved evasion in all her forms, so I'd give the Lizard Lord DR 10/- in all forms as well. That's not something I'd necessarily imagine changes as it changes forms anyway, and Alternate Form has the critter retain SQs.

I can go along with all those.

The hypnotic pattern would be have such a useless DC compared to its gaze attack it would seem unlikely to ever use it.

I'll update during our next round.

Ready for skills and feats? There's nothing glaringly missing as far as I can tell. I'm willing to start with giving the small lizard Weapon Finesse (b).

Fine by me, I've updated the Lizard Lord Working Draft to confirm the few changes we made above.

We have the Hawk Lady the following:

Skills: Bluff, Concentration, Diplomacy, Knowledge (nature), Knowledge (the planes), Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Sense Motive, Search, Spot, Survival, Tumble, Use Magic Device
Feats: Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Dire Charge, Greater Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Critical (bite), Improved Critical (claw), Improved Initiative, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Perfect Two-Weapon Fighting, Superior Expertise, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Finesse, Wingover
Bonus Feats (Raptor Forms): Improved Flyby Attack (B), Mobility (B), Multiattack (B)

We went the single-weapon route for Boss Lizard, so we can cut all the two-weapon feats and it obviously doesn't need Improved Flyby Attack or Wingover. I'm thinking we should go for a Power Attack route, and probably give it Improved Multiattack instead of Multiattack.

How's this for the feats?

Feats: Cleave, Great Cleave, Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Dire Charge, Improved Critical (bite), Improved Critical (claw), Improved Critical (tail), Improved Sunder, Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Superior Expertise, Weapon Focus (trident)
Bonus Feats (Lizard): Mobility (B), Spring Attack (B), Weapon Finesse (B)
Bonus Feats (Giant Lizard): Awesome Blow (B), Improved Overrun (B), Improved Multiattack (B)
Bonus Feats (Hybrid): Improved Multiattack (B), Improved Overrun (B), Mobility (B)

For the skills, the Lizard Lord is described as "one of the most aloof animal lords" who "rarely takes human form, and even less rarely involves himself in the affairs of nonreptile kind". Since the Hawk Lord is a gregarious lass, that suggests we should cut out Bluff and Diplomacy and give it different skills instead - maybe divide the points between Climb, Intimidate and Swim? I'm wondering whether we should reduce Sense Motive and Tumble a bit too.

Skills: Climb, Concentration, Intimidate, Knowledge (nature), Knowledge (the planes), Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Sense Motive, Search, Spot, Swim, Survival, Tumble, Use Magic Device

I've spent some time waffling about all those bonus feats and having them change so much from form to form. But I'll go with those for now. The regular feats look fine.

I'll agree to those feats, too. He has 480 ranks to buy, which would be 32 on each of those proposed skills. How about reduce Sense Motive and Tumble to 20 each and bump Climb, Intimidate, and Concentration (?) to the max (40 ranks)?

Yes, I fiddled around with them a lot before I settled on those. Its four forms are quite different in their capabilities and it seemed better to give them bonus feats that seemed appropriate than having all the forms have a set of the same bonus feats.

40 in Climb is overdoing it a bit, surely.

How about we decide what skills we really want maxed-out or nearly maxed-out, and see what we have left over?
