CRPG Games?

Hello, I am looking for a new CRPG. Is there any good ones out there? (I have all the Black Isle games etc, including BG, BG 2, Fallout etc). What about the new Wizardry game? What are the requirements etc?

Yep, Morrowind is exceptional if you have a good computer. Beware that it continues the fine tradition of Bethesda games in that it has lots of nasty bugs. A patch is due soon, though.

You can download a Playstation emulator (epsxemu for example) and buy Final Fantasy IX. It takes a bit of work to make it function properly, but it's worth it. Once the emulator is properly configured, I've found the game to be perfectly stable. The emulation quality depends heavily on your video card, but you can assume it will be at least as good as the TV. On good cards that are widely supported and thus have good emulator plugins, the graphic output is actually far better than the original. Plus, on an emulated game you can save whenever you want in a fraction of a second instead of using save points. :D

Of course, the two games are at opposite extremes of the CRPG spectrum. Morrowind is the state of the art in non-linear computer roleplaying games, where you can keep playing for months even after having completed it by playing side quests, plugins, or just wandering around in the world, or you could restart with another character and complete the main quest in a different way. Any FF game is completely linear, forces you to follow the plot, and there's not much else to do except massacring thousands of monsters over and over again or playing the occasional minigame... but the depth of plot and characters is simply miles ahead any other game except Planescape: Torment (which is in the same league). I've just completed FF X on PS2 and the ending almost made me cry.

Neverwinter Nights has gone gold and should be out sometime next week. It uses the 3E rules, has a toolset to make your own modules for multiplayer or single player, and has a Dungeon Master Client.

I am interested in Wizardry 8. Is it good? What are the requirements? I also found a 5 dollar copy of Age of Wonders (I know it is strategy, but...) and am wondering if it is any good... Help me out if you could.

"I say you wait for Icewind Dale II..."

"NOOO!"

"What do you want to do when Icewind Dale II is released, Brain?"

"Same thing we did when Heart of Winter was released, Pinky. Try to take over the world!"

Wizardry 8 is very good, though depending on your tastes, it might be a bit slow-paced. I haven't played Morrowind yet, but I am eagerly awaiting both NWN and IWD2. Might and Magic IX has a LOT of flaws, but still manages to be reasonably entertaining. Arcanum has a similar feel to the fallout games, and I really enjoyed it.
