CSI Miami aka The Horatio Caine Show

As far as I've been able to see there was a certain clash of egos when the show
started. That both saw themselves as the stars of the show or something like that.

Caruso "won" so she left.

The writers really need to have people stop syaing "You can't prove that" or anything like that. It might have been kinda clever the first time, but now its mutliple times in one episode

If that's the case, I can only assume that she was smoking something.

Caruso was on the show since the Miami episode of the original CSI, and was always touted as the lead. What's-her-name was brought on at the very last minute, for reasons I'm still unsure of.

She had to know that she was coming late to the party...

Kim Delaney - keep in mind that having come off of being one of the stars of NYPD Blue, she may have had a totally different impression of what her role would be on the show. Margaret Helgenberger (Katherine on CSI) and William Petersen compliment one another well - they have the kind of clash of personalities and friendship on-screen that is part of the appeal of the show. The producers possibly wanted a strong female lead that could engender that kind of "cross-dynamism" that Helg. and Petersen have; however, Caruso, from what I've seen in his career, has never been one to share the limelight. I think the other Miami actors have the idea of where they stand in that boat, whether it's Caruso's or the producers' stance on his role.

Not to defend Caruso, but Delaney has said in the past that she left because of the long hours involved and the distance from New York (her home). She had left one series and after a short break was ready to work again. However, the shooting schedule was much different than the one she was accustomed to with NYPD Blue and that (along with some other personal matters) lead to her decision to leave. I think the whole Caruso got her fired thing is more rumor than fact. Miss Delaney has shown a lack of legs (so to speak) in sticking with a series since she left NYPD Blue, so I would say it has more to do with her than anything else.

It's become a parody of itself.
Quick, Horatio, drive your police department issue Humvee (hee hee) into an abandoned building, find the tied-up victim, stick them in the Humvee (hee hee) and drive out MOMENTS BEFORE THE BUILDING EXPLODES!

The sad thing is that he's surrounded by vastly more interesting actors and characters. Why did they have to kill Speed instead of Horatio?

I wouldn't call the other characters vastly more interesting, most of them are very 2d

They're vastly more interesting that Caine, to me. "Brood Dude" tends to drown out Calleigh Dusquene, dedicated woman whose family and lovers are quite literally falling down all around her - her collision course for a nervous breakdown was abandoned, apparently.

Eric Delko was busy screwing every woman he could find because he couldn't deal with the job. One counselling session later, and he's good to go.

Wolf was a loudmouth who shot off one too many times to a reporter, and supposedly cost his department dearly. This year, no mention of it, and Valera (the DNA analyst he shafted) is back like nothing happened.

All so that Caine could have his plotlines play out unfettered? Eh.

Haven't watched this Monday's yet, I have it on tape and will watch it tonight, but if I don't like the storyline I'm becoming perfectly fine with going to bed an hour early. :)

I'd heard that they originally wanted Delaney, or someone like her, for the counterpart to the lead (to keep with the Bill Petersen/Marg Helgenberger formula that works so well in the original CSI) but didn't find anyone they felt was strong enough to play opposite Caruso, so were going to try something a bit different. Then when Delaney's show Philly didn't pan out (and she became available), they quickly moved to get her. Unfortunately, rushing it (and trying to revert to the original formula) proved to not be a good plan for any number of reasons, some of which might be only rumor but fit the facts, FWIW (Possible ego clashes, sudden need to adjust scripts that were already written to include her character, etc.).

Personally, I think that Delaney is plenty qualified to carry a show and the writers (given some time) could adjust the direction in which they were going with her character if they brought her back. It's also a shame about Cochrane's character being killed off as his acting, along with that of Proctor, Rodriquez, Alexander, and Milos (and even Togo, for that matter), are what I have found in the past to be some of the best elements of the show despite the recent trend to key mostly on Caruso's character and use everyone else as window dressing.

I just think the writers or whoever is in charge of consitancy on the show is just bad. Its like the come up with ideas for the secondary characters but have no idea how to deal with them or resolve them.
