And yet other games continue to exist, and put out new product.
I didn't say any would fail, but gaining an audience anywhere near that of D&D is likely to be a challenge.

Yeah, this is one of my options although I am also getting rid of origin half feats, making them full feats. It's a really simple solution, for sure. If you feel the need to compensate your martial players (and you don't really need to) you could always give them a bonus Origin Feat in place of it. Or not! It's not a huge big deal.
You said "staying power". D&D's level of commercial success is not necessary for staying power.I didn't say any would fail, but gaining an audience anywhere near that of D&D is likely to be a challenge.
I like Level Up more than DC20.You have to start somewhere. Level Up is a pretty new game.
Nothing I've heard about DC20 indicates that I would enjoy it. The endorsements in the OP are from folks who generally like games for very different reasons than I do, and have very different DMing styles.I like Level Up more than DC20.
Even the #2 RPG behind D&D has a fraction of the audience, and it's been on the market for over 15 years. I don't think "anywhere near" D&D's popularity needs to be a metric for success.I didn't say any would fail, but gaining an audience anywhere near that of D&D is likely to be a challenge.
it took D&D 45 years and two near-death experiences to get there, give them timeI didn't say any would fail, but gaining an audience anywhere near that of D&D is likely to be a challenge.
And that in my experience is typically the biggest hurtle with most other TTRPGs.If you find an RPG you can play with a group, can help your group get the books they need, and have enough content to keep you engaged, then you've found a successful RPG.
Not me. If I want to run something different, then I make sure everyone in the group has access. And that in my experience is typically the biggest hurtle with most other TTRPGs.
