[D&D 3.5] Paths of Legend: Paths of Madness (OOC)

Would Perform: Oratory be an acceptable "Bardic Music" skill? I know it's not the atypical lute or lyre, but I think it works much better with my concept.

[sblock=Background]
When slavers brought Grellus to Thay to be sold the only thing he would say was, “Grellus like red.” Grellus was seemingly happy to be sold to a red wizard but the wizard quickly grew tired of Grellus constantly trying to touch his robe and murmuring, “Red, red, red.” Punishment didn’t help the matter any and it was only when the wizard gave Grellus an oversized pair of red pantaloons that he was able to get any peace.

Peace reigned, as much as it could in any labor camp, for quite some time and Grellus worked at whatever heavy hauling he was put to until a traveling menagerie passed. Grellus stood transfixed by the cage of monkeys and no amount of beating could get him to continue work. Finally the overseer sent riders to bring back the menagerie to placate the normally placid slave. After seeing the monkeys Grellus went back to work.

This state of affairs lasted for several days until suddenly Grellus declared, “Grellus like monkey,” and would do no more work. Beatings, reduced rations, no form of punishment could induce Grellus to do anything other than say, “Grellus like monkey.” In time, the red wizard owner came to check on his possessions and found his ogre slave in a poor state. Grellus would only say, “Grellus like monkey.” After the overseer’s explanation the wizard snapped, “Get him a cursed monkey and get him back to work.”

So Grellus got a monkey and gladly went back to work because everywhere Grellus went the monkey was perched on his shoulder. The overseer suffered a small bit from his master’s displeasure and took to playing cruel jokes on Grellus in retaliation. Grellus bore it all and, in truth, hardly seemed to notice.

Time passed in that fashion until one particularly cruel joke resulted in the death of Grellus’ monkey pet. Grellus became enraged and beat the slave-driver to death with a heavy chain. Now he sits waiting for death in a deep cell, but he hardly notices as he coos an awful song to the stinky, mummified, monkey corpse he cradles in one huge hand.

[sblock=Motivation]
1) Grellus like red! If it’s red, Grellus wants it.
2) Grellus like monkey! He’ll do anything to protect his poor, dead, monkey pal. He’d be overjoyed if he could find a new, live, monkey pal. A red monkey would be heaven but, hey, Grellus isn’t stupid; he knows there is no such thing as a red monkey.
3) Grellus like beans! Beans and…<scratch>. Okay, Grellus’ vocabulary may not include such vaunted concepts as ‘freedom’ but he knows he wants it. And the freedom to eat beans ‘til he isn’t hungry anymore, because, you know, sometimes even a dead monkey starts to smell tasty when you’re a hungry ogre.[/sblock]

Grellus like red eh? well, Evan does happen to have flamboyantly red hair and a strange obsession with blood (ALso red!!). I think we'll get along well, so long as you don't go Lennie on my ass.. *L*

I can just see it now....

the thief slowly goes for the large red ruby on the mantel... slowly his hand reaches out looking about to see if anyone notices him before concentrating fully on the task at hand...

"mmm a good as mine" I whisper as I turn hearing a loud thumping behind me.... before I know it my hand and the ruby are enveloped in a stinky, foul, and less then intelligent ogre head and moreover.... in it's mouth.

Grellus!.... BAD ogre.... that's my thieving hand.... no.... no no.... don't you DARE swallow that ruby.... drop it.... DROP IT!................ you ate it didn't you?

LOL

Haha.. And where's the part when I eat your brains? ;o)
Unfortunately, since according to you...
Humans rule.-
...you won't be enjoying any human brains at least. And so, with a brainless ogre, a (literally) thickheaded minotaur and a disembodied shadow, it seems likely that you'll be forced to look outside the party for sustenance. Tough luck flayer player; maybe you'd enjoy some nice rodent cerebellums instead... :p
