[D&D 4e] IG's "Those Left Behind, Chapter 4(e)"

Shaimon Hu'u, druidic human ranger

Shai pauses a moment, caught between the uncharacteristic reversal that has Talashia making emotional decisions and Uulark using cold logic. He seems dumbfounded, which as usual leads to his looking to Dyspeer. The wolf cocks his head to one side, then sneezes. Whether this was an answer or not, it seems to help the big woodsman make his decision. He sets his jaw and nods.

"Whether he were a grown up or not, Caerwyn left his sister behind," Shai says. "I already watched that poor girl back in Ironfell lose her daddy without her getting to say goodbye 'cause I went off and got distracted by heroing and such. I ain't gonna let someone else lose family for the same reason. Me'n Dys are gonna see if we can't sniff out Caerwyn. If he went in the woods, might be he ran across whatever's taking folk from town, anyway."

[sblock=ooc]I realize IG wrote Caerwyn out because he's now player-less, but makes sense we'd at least try to track him down. Or, Talashia would, and as above, seeing a party member so upset wouldn't be the kind of thing Shai would be able to let go if he had the ability to help. Seems just as viable a path to Finding Trouble as any other, at least. ;)

I'm not entirely sure how tracking works for animals in 4e. Looks like it's connected to Perception, but I can't tell if wolves have any kind of bonus on it like they did in 3.5. In either case, Shai and Dys are trained in Perception, so they should be mildly decent at it.[/sblock]

Uulark Simental, Longtooth Shifter Cleric of Sehanine L11

"Sighhhhh," is all Uulark says as he finishes gathering his gear and making ready to move out to wherever the group leads him.

oO What are we, bards now. If I hear a sonnet, I'm cutting a throat...maybe my own. Oo thinks Buurt. But, getting himself together and ready, the half-orc says, "It'd be easy enough to look into both, since they're both out there, we can just start with Caerwyn."

[sblock=Perception DC 29 (Trained Only)]Looks like Caerwyn's traipsed off through the woods rather than on the back that leads into Thorndale proper.[/sblock]

"Either he learned to fly," states Buurt. "He or doesn't wish to be found..."

"At first blush, I can't find a trail and that ain't easy to admit," adds the half-orc scout.

Talashia fumes silently as the others search.

"He must have really not wanted us to follow him," she mutters, then clears her throat. "So be it then. Caerwyn's not a little boy who needs minding anymore. I'll...trust him not to be a complete imbecile and get in over his head by himself when there's friends so near."

She straightens her shoulders and nods.

"To the town then. I'm sure, if he has need of us, that's where he'll look."

"Unless he's ambushed and can't get away," Shazi reminds her as he flaps after her. "Or trips and breaks his legs out there where no one can hear him screaming."

The sorceress spares him a venomous look, but says nothing.

"Oh, those are just the kind of cheerful thoughts we need, Shazi! Thank you very much for that unnecessarily graphic image. Hey, I know, let's sing a song as we journey to town! She'll be comin' 'round the mountain when she comes! ... come on, everybody sing .... oh, alright, then," the disappointed Longtooth Cleric/Chanteur sulks to the back of the procession.

Shai bites his lip at his failure to find a trail, but says nothing as the party heads for town, hoping the spiteful sprite doesn't have the right of things...
