D&D 4E D&D 4E Style

That's a pretty nasty reaction to a piece of art. Doesn't anybody around here like his style, or am I alone in thinking it looks awesome? What I like about Wayne Reynolds' artwork is the sense of movement and style. There's no doubt that the next second the fighter is either going to bury his sword in the dragon's head, or it's going to spray him with a huge amount of acid and watch the him melt away. His companions hurrying to aid him against this powerful enemy. I like the somewhat "cartoony" style he uses and I like the momentum in his images.

I agree with everything quoted and am also a fan of Reynolds's use of color, but I still find the presence of old school motifs present in this particular piece unsettling.

I actually really like the design work on the PC behind the main fighter. If these are the new iconics, I look forward to seeing more of this swashbuckling character.

I like that the books will have art on their covers. This is something I was really missing from 1e days.

I feel all shallow and stuff. :o Oh well.

As for the art so far. . . I dunno. I'll wait to see more before jumping up and down with joy, or with a meat cleaver.

Is that a pointy wizard hat I see in the background?

If so, then I have my first negative reaction to 4e.

Dear gods, spare me from the 'old school'.

get some glasses my friend that is a pointy helmed dwarven cleric.

I take it all back. 4e looks like it's in good hands!

ps. the picture is labeled "tiefling fighter".

I'm praying to Crom that he's a new iconic!
What's wrong with his leading foot? I think this Tiefling had his feet wrapped (like 18th century Chinese ladies) as a child. Either that or he's got cloven hooves, which makes you wonder why he's wearing boots at all ...

Armor = good.
Tail & horns = huh? I thought Tieflings were "tainted", not "over-flowing" with Demon heritage?
Swords = ugh. You couldn't just have a cool scimitar from the local weaponsmith, huh? You just had to buy "The Swords of Destiny" from the back of that dumb catalog ... you know the catalogs I'm talking about.

And that tail better give him an awesome balance bonus. It's like having a tightrope walker's balance pole stapled to your butt. And I bet it wags when he's eating kittens.
