D&D is dying by the hour

Since I am book retailer I have access to one of the biggest book-distributors in the US (i.e. the one selling books to retailers).

And the name of that distributor is...?

If you add this up you are FAR AWAY from 5.5 million or even something remotely close to that.

Since you only have to buy a PHB once I would figure that most of the people who are going to buy a PHB will have already bought one by this time. If you have figures going back in time, it would be interesting to see if there was a significant drop in those total demand figures when 4E was announced.

Pepsi talks about Coke, and Coke talks about Coke. It's good to be Coke. It's even better to be Coke when "Pepsi" has a bare sliver of your sales and media visibility.

Exactly, and in this particular case, Paizo is not even Pepsi... its RC Cola or something like that.

So, the consensus is in that D&D ain't dead.

Here's an intersting question I have for you, that hit me in the head listening to some rpg podcasts today:

"Is D&D still the vanguard of the industry?"

I think it clearly depends on how you define "vanguard" and "industry".

Discuss...

Unquestionably. Until and unless somebody hears "roleplaying game" and doesn't need the explanation, "kinda like Dungeons & Dragons," D&D remains the vanguard of the industry.

Smaller, think something like Ale-8 here in KY. Made in Winchester KY, sold within about a 3 hour driving radius.

Ok I admit i didn't even bother to read most of this thread.

But really even if DnD died, it's not like it's a big deal. i have it on good authority The Rouse, multi-classed into cleric. So he could easily cast Raise Dead and bring DnD back to life.

But then it would lose one level and be weaker. Unless he casted True Ressurection. Or used Reincarnation and transformerd D&D x.Y into a badger.
