D&D 4E D&D Minion, app for managing 4E encounters

Very Neat! :)

I like how it resorts based on init, but could you make it cycle thru the combatants.
Perhaps have the persons whose turn it is be hilighted in the background of the name, then cycle via the space bar or something. Nice work...

Did the forum eat my reply? I thought I replied to this already...

Thanks!

Turn tracking is already on my todo list.

Simple cycling like you suggested would be pretty easy, but being aware of the turns would enable all sorts of other stuff too: automatic handling of until-the-end-of-your-next-turn conditions, encounter statistics (how long did it take, who killed who) etc.

But there is a downside, too: it would require a lot more interaction with the app, which takes focus from the actual gaming. Maybe as this too should be a togglable feature?

In my experience, EVERYTHING should be a toggle-able feature. Not everyone is going to want all that's included.

That said, this is a wonderful app, and I'm certainly going to use it in my face to face games. That being said, would this still work if I saved the web-page and accessed it while I'm not connected to the internet, or does it require a constant network connection to grab information?

I'm wondering too as I don't always have an internet connection (LFR Public Play at the FLGS ;) )

I agree - I'm working on enabling togglable stuff at the moment.

I'm afraid that offline access is not possible. Minion runs in the Google App Engine, meaning it's completely dependent from a connection to Google's cloud.

It's not a bandwidth or performance hog, so if you want mobility a netbook is probably your best bet. It should also work with most modern cellphone browsers (i've tested it with iPhone) but the small screen estate and right-click accessed menus may pose problem.

An 'ongoing damage' condition would be nice, though the need to identify type and amount of damage would make it more complicated. Even just an icon reminding me that there's ongoing damage at all would be useful.

Looks good ... I'll try it out next game.

That's a good idea! Amounts and types would complicate the UI too much, but I'll add a simple "has ongoing damage" condition.

I'm anxious to hear how your group likes it :)

Just deployed 0.43 which has the following new features:

  • Preferences screen (from "File > Preferences" menu) for toggling features on and off.
  • HP column which can be hidden from the preferences. If it is visible you can also enter hit point values for PCs and NPCs in the corresponding views in the campaign editor.
  • Condition cascading (see previous message in this thread) can now be toggled on and off from the preferences screen.
  • New condition "Ongoing Damage".
  • All buttons look the same throughout the app.
  • Help window has a close button
