D&d Minis Hurrayyy!

Saturday I played the Miniatures Demo at Gencon.
I have always wanted minis in my game.
My painting/gluing/cleaning/etc skills suck and to me it is not worth the time.

After looking at 16 different figs while playing I can say that I like them. I will be buying these by the carload.
No paint, No Work. Just Use. My kinda mini.

Matter of fact I think I actually like the game itself enough to play it.

look at it this way... when the masses bring their plastic crap to the table, we proud few painters will be "l337." ;)

personally, i'll never use these figures (i do think they're unattractive, and i enjoy painting, which many people do not) - however, i can't say that i'm upset at the line itself.

if nothing else, it should cut down on the "hey, i need these dwarves painted before the end of this campaign arc - you don't mind, do you?" which i just love so much. :D

I like to paint minis, and I'm also looking forward to these minis. I can spend 10 bucks on Reaper minis for my PC's, and then another 10 bucks on booster pack mystery crap for the monsters.
ROFL!
Well, that's one way to do it.
Dark Heaven and Warlord minis for the heroes. The local monsters union will have something to say about this.

Reaper for characters and most monsters, Ral Partha casts are back through another company, GW orcs and goblins are cheap on Bartertown and sculpey monsters are easy enough to make with a little effort. I remember back when miniatures looked really neat, Ral Partha and Superior Models in particular. Those new D&D miniatures look crappy in all of the pictures I have seen. And they will be random as well? HURRAY! Nothing like planning your campaign around a pack of random miniatures.

did someone just say RP casts were back through another company? can someone hook me up with this company's name? because, like... well, that would be swell.

I feel like throwing my 2 cents sense everybody else is :p

My one freinds loves to buy and paints minis. He's pretty good at it. He is not to thrill with the D&D mini thing thats coming out. You know what he is going to do, HE IS NOT GOING TO BUY ANY!!!! Strange concept.

Me on the other hand, like buying minis, I have a whole army of orcs, goblins, adventures, drow, elves and even a dwarf or 2 all wearing there fine pewter colored clothing. I suck at painting them. You know what I am going to do, I WILL BE PURCHASING THESE D&D MINIS!!!

So my friend who doesn't like this won't buy it, I will. I don't see the problem. I don't even know why we are arguing over it.

2 things will happen-

It will be succesful and continue to live on, or it won't and will be shelved. I also don't think this will be the end of Reaper minis or its ilk.

I only fear that when I show up to the table with my little plastic fig I won't be looked down at by "l337" metal painted figs. At least I we can both mock the guy who is using his d4 as his fig.

No evidence what so ever, but it xpalins a few things.

That's what I thought. Thanks for being honest.

Just one more thing. I still, loss leaders or otherwise, think my point is corect. While metal mini buyers may be a viable market, WotC obviously don't see them as a market big enought to be worth their time and money and Chainmail is an example of that. If WotC DID think that metal minis were worth while, then why did they stop making them?

But this of course was not the claim that you made. You specifically told mmu1 that s/he should not complain about not getting metal minis because WOTC's past experience shows that they cannot make money producing them - e.g. the cancelation of Chainmail. The above is in fact what I said was the case in the post you were somehow offended by: Chainmail made money, but WOTC decided to try a different approach in search of a better return on their investment. For clarification, please go back and re-read that posting.

So again, your response to mmu1 is not valid. You were wrong and s/he was perfectly correct to claim that WOTC is not serving him/her with this mini line, even though it could and still make money.
