D&D Minis: What's missing most?

I didn't mean that i wouldn't get an Aspect of Neurall, rather, I meant that WoTC going to a non-collectible format.

Ah. And I concur: They won't stop doing boosters, and there will be exactly two instants where you will know exactly what you get: Starter Sets (Wardrums will have two commons that are in every single starter.) and very large figures (Colossal and Gargantuan - though With gargantuan they might do something else, too)

Another thing that would be interesting to see, are some of the various oozes and puddings. Make them out of the same model and a simple color change and bam, you can have common, uncommon, and rare figures right from the same mold by changing the paint scheme.

Has anyone mentioned more giants? I rememberl ooking around for fire giants and e-bay and seeing that the leader was selling for less than the standard figure. Odd.

I just want non-random assortment so I can get the minis that I actually want easily. I do not like the collectible nature of the minis because I only use them for D&D, not some miniature game.

I had the same problem. I went to www.popularcollections.com and bought common minis in bulk. Common minis are extraordinarily cheap. Uncommons are still a good deal. Rares can be expensive although still cheaper than buying an entire box of minis you don't really want.

Not that it would have much use in the miniatures game element, but I would _love_ to see a pack of mundane things. Treasure chests, tables, carts, barrels, haystacks, whatever. Just stuff the litter a battlemat with that is durable and to scale.

Likewise, I think the commoner has already been produced, but more (and more diverse) normal people would be quite nice. I am sick of having my bar patrons be extra skeletons or human bandits.

Plus horses. Didn't the first mounted miniature just come out in the last pack? I would have thought the iconic mount would have made a show earlier.

It's missing a bag O' Zombies type product. 100 zombies for little money.

How about:
Bag O' Kobolds
or Bag O' Goblinoids

I'm not a collector I'm a player and you can never have enough kobolds!

I'm not sure what effect it would have on the secondary market, but why couldn't we have a "Core Set," comprised of the basic miniatures everyone needs?

From my perspective, the "Core Set" format has several advantages over the current options (buying on the secondary market or switching to a noncollectable format).

1) Most of the "staple" figures are in the first couple sets. The early sets have a lot of bulky, low-texture figures in garish, clashing colors. As the series has developed, the sculpting and painting have drastically improved, and a core set could have new figures with the same names and stats as the old, ugly-as-sin minis for those of us who are picky about aesthetics.

2) Most of the "staple" figures have been uncommon or common, so reprinting them wouldn't have as drastic of an effect on the secondary market. The new run of Rebel Storm minis also makes me think that Wizards can reprint rare minis, even very rare chase minis, without having their houses burned down by rabid collectors, although I don't think the Star Wars minis market is quite that of the D&D market.

I know that we tend to be kind of defensive about anything that begins to make D&D look like Magic, but doesn't the "core set" approach make sense? It satisfies the needs of those new to the hobby, and helps bring them in. It satisfies noncollectors and casual hobbyists who just want standard minis. But a "core set" approach can also benefit serious collectors by allowing the regular releases to be a little more adventurous with their contents (which is also becoming important as they run out of normal stuff to make minis of). It seems like it would also be a benefit to miniatures players to have a set that's always in print.

As long as they don't do "white base" reprints. Anything but that!

I noticed that at one point and thought it was weird too. But then it occured to me that it makes perfect sense. I only need one King Snurre, but I would like to have a whole bunch of his minions.

Based on how much they're charging for the star wars figure, I don't know if I'd buy that. Mage Knight had a few non-random big figures that were priced a little more reasonably than that sucker.

Plus, with the current eBay prices (because MK has printed the last set of the original game), you can get most of them pretty cheap and pop them off the bases. A couple of chariots, 4 dragons (not counting the huge, but more expensive, Apocolypse Dragon), a giant griffin w/rider, a cyclops and a hill giant (admittedly ,with guns, but it can be modded).
