Creature Cataloguer
I’m looking for examples from D&D (any edition, any world) that are more sci-fi than fantasy. I want to create some sci-fi monsters, and I’m looking for an inspiration. If I look at an illustration, I can completely rewrite a creature (say, that thing looks like it should be telepathic and shoot electricity from its eyes) to my liking. The weirder-looking, the better.
What I don’t want to use are: furry humanoids (got plenty of those already, actually), fantasy staples (i.e., red dragons, unicorns, pixies, orcs, goblins), dinosaurs or any other animals that exist(ed) on earth, or creatures that are just a mixture of various animal parts.
Here are a couple of examples of the sort of thing I’m looking for:
The dharculus, from the Far Realm. That thing is just so damn weird-looking, it’s perfect. Of course, I wouldn’t have it having anything to do with the Astral Plane.
The tirapheg. Let’s face it, this thing sucks as a D&D monster. But, as a sci-fi monster, it’s perfect. It’s so bizarre looking that I’d just love to design something like that.
